Regan and Mitch met in the fall of 2014 when Mitch was Dr. Smith’s Supplemental Instructor for Microeconomics. On nights when SI sessions were held, we often would walk to the library together as we often had study tables for our respective sports, or group projects to work on. On these walks we started to get to know each other and have a door-opening contest because Mitch would always be a nice Southern gentleman and open the door, while Regan wanted to be stubborn and catch Mitch off guard by opening doors for him. Let’s just say, being a gentleman sweeps a girl off her feet. While we were trying to figure out supply and demand graphs or opening doors for each other, our mutual friend, Katie was working to play match-maker. Katie was the senior athletic trainer for the wrestling team and had told Mitch that Regan was interested in him. Guess we never out-grew the elementary school phase where we had our friends go back and forth with the person we are interested in because we are too nervous to do it ourselves. Soon enough, December rolled around with the end to fall semester. To celebrate the end of finals week and to take advantage of the unseasonably, nice weather in Dubuque, Mitch and Regan hiked out at the Mines of Spain before heading home for Christmas break. Regan heading to back to her parent’s house in West Union, Iowa, and Mitch back to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We climbed Horseshoe Bluff and found a ledge to sit on that looked out over the Mississippi River. With feet dangling over the edge, the setting sun behind us casting a warm glow over the beautiful landscape before our eyes, it was the perfect end to the semester and the beginning of a bright new future together.
