We highly recommend renting a car to experience the beautiful island of Oʻahu. Most hotels are located in Waikiki and there are many shuttles/activities from there. However, this area is extremely busy and tourist filled. The wedding will be on the opposite side of the island for a private experience- Lanikūhonua (Ko Olina area of Kapolei). Please remember, this is a 30 minute drive in no traffic, however expect there to be heavy traffic on weekdays going up to 90 minutes after 2:30PM. ------------------- The closest hotels to Ko Olina are Four Seasons Ko Olina, Marriot Beach Clubs Ko Olina, Disney Aulani, Embassy Suites Kapolei, & Hampton Inn Kapolei Budget Friendly: Laylow, Ilikai, The Surfjack, Ala Moana, New Otani Kaimana Beach, Outrigger, VIVE, Shoreline, Queen Kapiolani Recommended: Hilton Hawaiian Village, Embassy Suites Waikiki, Sheraton, Prince Waikiki, Hilton Grand Luxury: The Kahala (our favorite and original wedding location), Four Seasons, & Turtle Bay Resort

Traveling to Hawaii

7/15/21- IMPORTANT- You must download the SafeTravels application to your phone and receive a QR code 24 hrs beforehand to bypass quarantine line if vaccinated (please do this a week before). Please make sure to bring your physical vaccine card in case of any emergencies. Your SafeTravels QR code will be scanned and analyzed from your departing airport (you may receive wristband). For toddlers (age 5+) - negative COVID test must be done and resulted with evidence in hand in order to board a flight to Honolulu. The earliest a COVID test can be done is 72 hour mark. If your flight from chicago leaves for Honolulu on Saturday at 10AM, this means the earliest you can get tested is Thursday at 10AM in Chicago. Again, please download the app! For COVID test-Please visit the state website to choose a “safe travel” partner as the type of test accepted is extremely specific. Select Walgreens and CVS locations are accepted along with Kaiser Permanente & Costco. Walgreens & Kaiser are free.

House Or Rental

Airbnb & VRBO

A cheap option is to rent a house on VRBO or AirBnB. We recommend staying in Ko Olina/ Kapolei, Hawaii Kai, Kailua/Kaneohe, North Shore, or Laie area for privacy. If you need help finding others to share with, please contact us! ------------------------------- As an extra note regarding hotels: Julie & Mitchell get 20%+ off all hotel rates because we are locals (Kama'aina). Fly into O'ahu (Honolulu). There is a direct nonstop flight on United & American between Chicago & Honolulu. Southwest Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Airlines are other options.
