Question

Why are you getting married so soon??? And why the day after Christmas!?

Answer

Trust us, we know how crazy this seems!! It was a surprise to us as well! After getting engaged in September, our original plan was to be married sometime next year after Mitch completed some (or all) of his training in San Diego. With not knowing how much time he’ll have between each of his trainings, we knew that no matter the date, it would likely be short notice. Both our families were prepared to plan a wedding last minute, we just didn’t know it would be so soon! Although I graduate in December, I won’t take the NCLEX until Feb/March. Then, I have to wait 4-6 weeks to obtain my license. I’ve heard from some friends that it has taken them close to a year to find a job in San Diego. Many hospitals are now hiring graduates only through new grad programs, which are very competitive. While it was always my hope to move to San Diego to be nearer to Mitch to support him through his training, doing so would’ve been difficult without a job or ability to support myself financially.

Question

Why are you getting married so soon??? And why the day after Christmas!? (continued)

Answer

We were really unsure of when we would be able to get married next year, or if he would even be allowed to travel out of the state during his training. When taking these things into account, including the most important fact that we know we want to be married, we saw no reason in waiting such a long time with so much uncertainty! Being married gives us more options, including me moving to San Diego, and other great things like BEING MARRIED!! We decided that his [presumed] 10 days home for Christmas might be our best option unless we want to risk having to [possibly] wait a very long time, which neither of us want to do! We can’t wait to be married and are so excited that it is all coming together! We chose the day after Christmas in hopes that we could take a short honeymoon here in Tucson before he heads back to Chicago.
