The Basilica of St. Francis has 13th-century frescoes portraying the life of St. Francis attributed to Giotto and Cimabue, among others. Florence (Firenze) and Rome (Roma) are ~3 hours by car from the villa, making for a perfect day trip! Florence boasts shopping on the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, and Medici influence, while Rome offers the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and the Colosseum. Bologna - 3 hours from the villa. The lively, historic capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy. Its Piazza Maggiore is a sprawling plaza lined with arched colonnades, cafes and medieval and Renaissance structure.
