How We Met

Love at First Swipe

Like any millennial love story, this one begins on the internet. Koki was completely disenchanted by the selections on Bumble. Mitch was about to begin session in the Kansas legislature (i.e., his busy time) and intended on deleting Bumble. Fate would have it that they matched. The two talked nonstop for several days. Mitch dazzled Koki with his charming rhetoric and quick wit. Koki’s straightforward attitude, beautiful looks, and humorous personality lured him in. Koki was about to go skiing for a week but couldn’t let another minute go by without meeting Mitch in person to see if the sparks continued. Needless to say, five drinks went down and five hours flew by and they never looked back.

The Proposal

Are You Breaking Up with Me?!

The Monday before Thanksgiving was cold, dark, and rainy. Koki had been in court for several hours that day, had to catch up on work emails, and handle fussy clients all which made her want to go home early. She checked in with Mitch to see what he was thinking for dinner and thought about packing up and going home. But thank goodness she didn’t . . . Meanwhile, Mitch was frantically cleaning their house and arranging ten dozen roses in their living room. Koki walked up to their front door and saw a card with her full Christian name that said “Read Me First.” At first, Koki thought Mitch was breaking up with her because he left her a note OUTSIDE their house. (Was she not even allowed back in to retrieve her cat?!). The card had a beautiful message from Mitch. She walked in and saw the room filled with roses, her handsome man in a dapper suit, and heard George Strait playing. Koki and Mitch couldn’t tell you what happened next, they both blacked out with excitement. All we know is Mitch got down on one knee, asked Koki to marry him, and she cried. A lot. Mitch invited over their parents and siblings and they finished four bottles of champagne that night. It was a good night.
