Our Story

On October 26, 2019, Missy went to Salem to visit Daniell and attend Troy and Lauren's annual Halloween party. Endangered animals were their costumes of choice with Missy as a rhino, Daniell as a tiger, and Daniell’s partner Brian as a hunter. Naturally, they wanted to make a grand entrance, so they ran into the party with Brian ‘hunting’ them. Once the commotion died down, Daniell introduced Missy to a man dressed as Hopper from Stranger Things (bottle of chianti and all.) “Jon, this is my friend Missy. We were roommates in San Diego. Missy this is Jon; he lives down the street.” And that is where it all began. Missy saw Jon almost every day that she was in Salem and as her trip came to an end, the reality of a cross-county relationship began sinking in. They decided to keep talking to each other and see where it led. When Jon visited in December 2019, they made their relationship official and said, "I love you" for the first time. Missy flew East in February 2020 with plans to return in April, but the joke was on them as a pandemic was right around the corner. They spent 104 days apart, becoming quite attached to one other despite the distance. They talked or video chatted daily while planning what it would take to be together. After a quarantined visit to San Diego in June, and after only 30 in-person days, the decision became clear. In August, Missy packed up her life, and Jon arrived in San Diego to help with the cross-country move. Missy and Jon’s dedication to one another grew stronger during forced isolation and togetherness, and on December 13, 2021, Jon proposed to Missy in the Boston Public Garden.
