Travel Note
Most travelers will need an e-Visa, including Americans. You can apply through the official government portal (https://evisa.gov.vn), and the process is quite straightforward, typically taking 3 to 5 business days. If the application is confusing, please let us know; we can connect you with friends who have already gone through the process to help guide you.
Flight
Arrival Airport: Please fly into Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Saigon. !!! - Travel heads-up: Clearing security and immigration at international terminals in Vietnam can unfortunately take 1–2 hours for both inbound and outbound flights, so please plan to arrive early and allow extra time. - !!!
Rental Car
We highly recommend downloading the Grab app before you arrive. It is the most reliable and affordable way to get around both cities, with rides usually costing between $3-$5 for cars, $1-$3 for motocycles. If you do not have a local SIM, you can register using your WhatsApp number. It's also common to use traditional taxi brands, some national reliable brands are Vinasun, Xanh SM, and Mai Linh
House Or Rental
District 1: For first-timers & short stays. This is the heart of the action, where you’ll find most tourist attractions, posh hotel chains, diverse international restaurants, and vibrant nightlife. It is highly convenient and walkable. District 3: For a quiet, local stay. Very similar to District 1 in terms of eateries but much quieter with less traffic and more greenery. It is the perfect place to explore local coffee culture and the fashion scene. District 2 (Thao Dien): For families. Popular among expats, this is the trendiest and fastest-developing area. It features higher-end Western cuisine, safe residential streets, and many parks, making it very family-friendly. District 7: For an extended stay. Another expat-friendly area that is slower-paced than District 2. It is self-contained and great for those looking to explore a modern, local lifestyle during a longer visit.
