Lion's Den Gorge Nature Preserve is a beautiful park not far from our house and the town the wedding will be held. It has short hiking trails available right along the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. These views really shouldn't be missed!
Port Washington is the the town next to ours. It is right along Lake Michigan and home to many cute shops and galleries. Lovely place to explore!
Cedarburg is one of our favorite towns to explore! It's home to shops, galleries, restaurants, and the Cedarburg art museum. The Shops at Cedar Creek Settlement is home to multiple cute shops and an attached winery. Amy's Gourmet Caramel Apples has (you guessed it) delicious caramel apples and one of our favorite breakfast places is located here - P.J. Piper's Pancake House. If you are getting in early for the wedding, then we recommend you check out the Covered Bridge Art Studio Tour which will be taking place Oct.11th, 12th, and 13th of 2024. This is a chance to check out local artist studios throughout Ozaukee County including many in Cedarburg.
The Milwaukee Art Museum is located right on the Lakefront in Milwaukee near downtown. Is beautiful inside and out and it is easy to spend hours there if you happen to have the time.
One of Milwaukee's many nicknames is Brew City and it is for good reason. There are many breweries to choose from but our favorite is Lakefront. It is not located on the lake but rather on the Milwaukee River. Misnomer aside, it has the funniest brewery tour, an excellent variety of beers, and delicious cheese curds. There is also a German beer hall and depending on when you go, live polka music! As seen in the photo, my parents definitely approved!
In addition for being known for its breweries, Wisconsin is the Dairy State. If you haven't yet had the opportunity, we highly recommend you sample some custard while you're here. We aren't naming a particular place because there are plenty of solid options in the area. You may as well visit more than one!
The Third Ward is a neighborhood in Milwaukee that is very enjoyable to explore. It has shops, galleries, restaurants, and is very close to the lake. It is also home to the Milwaukee Public Market which has many fun vendors. If you do go, see if you can find the Goodwill. It's not easy to spot from the outside.
