It was 10th grade. Yes, it was THAT long ago. We have Minh's sister to thank - she was the one who introduced us. Near October, word started getting around that the school's first prom ever was going to happen at the end of the school year, and we were scrambling to find a partner. Back then in Vietnam everyone communicated through Yahoo Messenger (R.I.P.) and it was through this platform that Minh asked Duc out for prom and also conveniently told him that she liked him very very much. Luckily, Duc felt the same way. In the past 10 years, we have been through lots of ups and downs. Like with every couple, things are not always rainbows and sunshine, but we somehow pulled through, making each other better everyday. And now, after friends have asked us a gazillion times, we are ready. The wedding is finally happening.
Before leaving the United States to return to Vietnam after 7 years, we decided to go on a big trip to Europe, and our last stop was of course, Paris, the city of love. Duc had planned the whole thing months in advance - Minh, being the basic girl she is, would love a proposal in Paris and he knew that. He was nervously hiding the ring as they got to the perfect spot for a photo with the Eiffel tower, but Minh was just as oblivious as ever. Duc secretly set the camera to video mode, pretended to pose for a pic with Minh, then turned and got down on one knee. Friends said he had a whole speech prepared, but he choked, of course. He nevertheless was able to pull himself together and pulled out the box, opened it, and asked Minh: "Will you marry me?" Minh was very emotional and at a loss for words - Duc had to remind her that she was supposed to say something. "YES! Yes yes yes!" Minh screamed. Duc put the ring on Minh's finger, they hugged and kissed, and you know what, you've seen the video. If you have not, go watch it! We will be holding the wedding in December, the month of our first kiss and also the month of our engagement. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter of our lives with you. See you in Hanoi!
