Coba Ruins

Coba is a great choice you're looking to explore Mayan ruins and cenotes in one trip. Coba is a large and important Mayan archaeological zone located in the eastern portion of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is one of the few sites to retain its original Maya name, Ko'ba a, which translates to ruffled/uneven water. Unlike the cenotes in Tulum which are open-air or semi-open air cenotes, the ones in Coba are entirely enclosed underground in a cave. Their stalactites, clear water, fish (and bats!) are worth seeing. Only 45 minutes away from Tulum.

Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza

Mexico

Chichen Itza, one of the New 7 Wonders of The World according to UNESCO. If you have the time to make the drive, definitely check out this archaeological site. We recommend booking a guided tour so that you can learn all there is to know about the ruins you are exploring. An added bonus to booking a tour guide is that you get to skip the long line of tourists waiting to get in. You can find guides offering their services in the parking lot or main entrance to the site. Bring a lot of water to drink as it does get quite hot there! Located in the state of Yucatan. About 2 1/2 hours from Tulum.

Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve

Tulum coastal road Tulum- Boca Paila- Punta Allen, 109, Quintana Roo, Mexico

A UNESCO World Heritage site. In the language of the Mayan peoples who once inhabited this region, Sian Ka'an means 'Origin of the Sky'. Located on the east coast of the Yucatán peninsula, this biosphere reserve contains tropical forests, mangroves and marshes, as well as a large marine section intersected by a barrier reef. It provides a habitat for a remarkably rich flora and a fauna comprising more than 300 species of birds, as well as a large number of the region's characteristic terrestrial vertebrates, which cohabit in the diverse environment formed by its complex hydrological system. Here you can take a boat ride through the fresh water lagoons, float down the ancient Mayan canals (a real life lazy river), and so much more!
