The inception of what later culminated in true love between Minjoo and Yoon began in an unexpected setting in the cold, cold city of Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they both attended the University of Michigan. As an IP-lawyer to be, Yoon effectively employed his social media skills (i.e. Facebook) to perform due diligence (aka “stalking”) on Minjoo after the two had met at a mutual friend’s get-together one snowy night. Not only was his conviction in her beauty confirmed as he went through her countless photos—as part of his due diligence, of course—he was very pleasantly surprised by her recent microfinance internship in Mumbai, India, a city and country that he held dear to his heart, as a place he had spent eight years of his life growing up. Despite his numerous smooth advances (e.g., asking to go to shisha bars, Facebook “likes” of her posts, and even the good, ol’ Facebook “pokes”), Minjoo had none of it, allegedly because she was “busy” with her academic pursuits and taking care of her younger brother, Taeyang.

Fast forward three years, when Minjoo decided to visit Yoon in Dallas, as the two had stayed in touch and had met in New York, Yoon knew it was now or never. He wanted to show his “matured” personality as a lawyer and so attempted engaging in deep, philosophical conversations, ranging from quantum physics to parallel universes, but soon found out that what won Minjoo’s heart was none other than their shared love for funny stories and Korean barbecue—and so, Yoon made sure to provide Minjoo with plenty of both after convincing her to delay her flight back to Philadelphia (where she was doing her master’s degree), allowing him to ultimately win her heart.

Since their first weekend together in Texas as a couple, their journey together as significant others, best friends, and now wife and husband have been filled with love and laughter (albeit with some challenges), as well as with joyful moments spent with each other’s families and friends.
