Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Mimi Charter and Jared Harzan
Southern Illinois and the wonderful Shawnee National Forest contains many options for outdoor activities. Late October and early November is a prime time to be visiting and the weather should be pleasant for climbing, hiking, biking, or whatever else your heart desires. We love Southern Illinois and all of things to do around here, and we've listed a few of our favorites below.

Holy Boulders

1975 Hutchins Creek Road, Alto Pass, IL 62905

Southern Illinois' premiere bouldering destination. Beautiful climbing tucked away in the Shawnee National Forest.

Jackson Falls

Glen Saint Falls Road, Simpson, IL 62985

Southern Illinois' best kept secret. Hundreds of sport routes in a beautiful part of the Shawnee Forest. Jackson Falls also contains many wonderful hiking trails. Jackson Falls being so close to Carbondale, IL is a big part of why we decided to come to Southern Illinois.

Giant City State Park

235 Giant City Road, Makanda, IL 62958
, (618) 457-4836

Lots of things to do at Giant City State Park. The park contains many hiking trails and places for a picnic, as well as multiple climbing spots. This is also where the rehearsal dinner/picnic will take place on the Friday before the wedding.

Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center

1206 Touch of Nature Road, Makanda, IL 62958
, (618) 453-1121

Multi-use and hiking only trails for those that want to hike or bike close to town.

Shawnee Hills Wine Trail

2865 Hickory Ridge Road, Pomona, IL 62975

Lots of quaint little wineries tucked away in the Hills just outside of town. Hickory Ridge and Pomona Winery are two of our favorites and they're right next to each other, so you can do a tasting at both! Please note that some of the wineries don't have any food available, so bring a snack!

Outdoor Pickleball and Tennis Courts

Marion Rushing Lane, Carbondale, IL 62903

Outdoor Pickleball and Tennis courts at Southern Illinois University that are open for public use.
