Our Story

Dylan and Sarah first came across each other on the wonderful dating app known as Hinge, back in the summer of 2019. They were both living in Los Angeles and had been dating on and off, but holding out for that special person. Dylan "liked" Sarah's answer to the question: "What is your life motto?" to which Sarah's response was "Kill them with Kindness". Dylan responded with "I'd watch that True Crime Story". Sarah liked the humor and decided to message back. They had their first date a few weeks later in Westwood, CA where they shared a pepperoni pizza. They talked for hours in the small pizza shop, and haven't stopped talking to each other since. (If Dylan says, "I got her off the internet!" this is what he is referring to...) In these past 5 years, Dylan and Sarah have gone on way too many trips and adventures to count. They both love relaxing, camping, and weird adventures that they find on a whim. But mostly, they love goofing around with each other and making every aspect of life fun. They even have been stranded in rural central California after they inherited a truck and thought it was a good idea to drive it down from Oregon, Sarah inspected it first and assured Dylan it looked great. They were stranded on the side of the road for over 6.5 hours, and not only did they not strangle each other, they made the best of it and love looking back at that story with laughter. That's just one of the silly "adventures" they have been on. Shortly into their relationship, a global pandemic struck. This put a big damper on their adventures, but they still stayed strong in their relationship. Sarah was only slightly bitter that she had to keep working in the hospital while Dylan got a paid adult Summer vacation. When she wasn't working, their days were filled with social distance dates, really getting to know one another, and a whole lot of Animal Crossing. In November, Dylan embarked on a new career, and they decided to move in together as opposed to keeping separate. It was so easy to live with someone you love that much, even if they snore. In 2021, Sarah convinced Dylan to go with her to the shelter to just "look" at a fluffy white puppy, fittingly named "Puppy". A few days before the appointment, the shelter called and let Sarah know she would have to sign a waiver because this pup had a heart murmur. She looked into it and found many dogs lived with murmurs, and she already had fallen in love with the puppy anyways. She mentioned it to Dylan the day before the appointment (after debating not telling him...) and he was apprehensive but trusted her blindly. So they went to just "look" and meet him. From the moment they arrived, that goofy little pup ran right up to them with the biggest smile and he was on sale for only $30! What a bargain! So, they signed the papers, took him home to Duarte, and changed his name to Trooper, like a Storm Trooper. Trooper played a large part in their relationship. He taught them how to be more responsible and put his needs first, patience, unconditional love, responsibility, and man did they learn a lot about heart failure. Trooper was there with them as they purchased their first home together in 2022, a fixer-upper townhome in Covina that they planned to fix up themselves with friends and family. That poor puppy had to live through all the chaos, sleeping in different rooms throughout the house, no floors, paint smells, but as long as he had his humans, he didn't care. They were a full family, and blessed with 3 beautiful years with Mr. Trooper. His name ended up fitting him in more ways than one. Now in 2024, after almost five years together, Dylan and Sarah have decided to move along in their relationship and embark on the journey of being married. They would love to have all of you join this fun day and help them continue as they write even more of their love story.

The Proposal

Background pertinent to this story: Sarah loves surprises, she thinks they are so fun, but if she has any inkling that one is coming, she will do everything in her power to find out everything about it, and ruin the surprise. This is a character flaw she has had since she was very young, and apparently, has no plans to work on this. The happy couple decided to go ring shopping in the Summer of 2024, after some gentle nudges from one of Sarah's best friends Brittany, who loved the idea of them being in their "bridal era" together. They already knew this was the next step for them, but this nudge really made them think of timelines and sooner was better rather than later since they do plan to start a family. They found a ring they fell in love with in the Downtown LA Jewelry District and placed the order. In an attempt to throw Sarah off, Dylan started planning surprise dates every Sunday, and told her she had to look cute and have her nails done. The first date ended up being a day at Bingo in Morongo, which Sarah loved, and she actually won enough money to go on an impulse mini shopping spree at the Outlets next door. The next weekend they went camping in Cambria, Sarah didn't need to dress up but was still weary during the trip. The next date ended up being in San Clemente. As they arrived she realized he was taking her to Casa Romantica, a beautiful historic house that was flawlessly maintained and overlooked the ocean. As they got out of the car, Sarah went in for a hug and secretly felt up all of his pockets for a box. They wandered around, took beautiful photos, and then ate brunch on the pier. What a beautiful spot to propose, but nothing happened. July 21st, 2024 For years, Dylan had an idea saved in his back pocket for when the day would come to propose. This required travel and an overnight stay. Sarah began to ask a lot of questions about what to pack, hoping to get details on what he had in store. While letting her know what clothes to pack, he made the mistake of telling her the weather, after which she promptly googled all cities nearby, discovering that San Diego matched the weather prediction perfectly. Sarah was so confident in her discovery, she even claimed "I know we're going to San Diego" as they left for the weekend. She then became confused as they got off the freeway half way to San Diego, and drove into the rural countryside. Dylan was actually taking her to a wildlife sanctuary, where they got to play with and feed exotic animals, which included Capybaras, and swim with Otters. This was Sarah's dream adventure she didn't even know existed. After playing with the animals all morning, they went to a beautiful hotel that overlooked one of Sarah's favorite places, Seaport Village (she was right when she said they were going to San Diego!). After dinner, they wandered around the village and ended up on a bridge over a pond. Dylan handed his phone to the most wonderful couple to take their photo, and just before he got on one knee, the whole area lit up and the moment was magical. She said yes. Sarah was holding back tears, and then could not any longer as one of her best friends, Bee, and her husband, Jack, came around the corner. It was all perfect and full of love.
