Things To Do

We're so excited to share some of our favorite places and things to do in the area! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Download the Hyatt Inclusive Collection App

MANDATORY! If you're wondering what shows and activities are available at the resort, all you need is the "Hyatt Inclusive Collection" app, available on Android and iPhone. After downloading, search for Secrets Akumal. The app is essential in order to know what's happening around the resort, and it can also be your room key. These shows and activities are free, and we highly recommend taking advantage of them! A few of our favorites: Activities - Bike tour (Limited space, so highly recommend getting there at least 15 minutes early!!) - Guacamole class - Pool or beach volleyball - "Crazy Game" can be one of many things--check it out! - Exercise activities were always fun - And many, many more! Shows - Mexican Night: Dinner, lively mariachi music, and regional dances - AkumArt Experience: Local artisans set up booths at the resort - The Voice: Resort guests compete in a live, on-stage singing competition for a free three-night stay - Many more available to enjoy!

Snorkeling With Turtles

Please read more info in our FAQ page. Snorkeling with turtles and other incredible sea life is one of the main reasons people visit Akumal. Feel free to ask us for more information, but you can experience this one of two ways: On Your Own: Swim straight out from the resort and you will encounter turtles, beautiful fish, rays, and more. Stay in the roped-off area. Sightings might not happen every outing, but we've been told around 9AM or 4PM-5PM are some of the best times. Patience is key! Sometimes we would see incredible activity and sometimes only a little. You can bring your own snorkel and mask or rent one from the resort (we think this might be a couple dollars). With a Guide or Group Tour: This is the best way to see the most activity around the protected reef. You will sometimes see local guides ready to speak with you along the beach that are willing to take you out. You can also take the three-minute walk to one of the snorkeling/scuba diving businesses right up the beach!

Walk to Town

There are several awesome places to walk to just up the beach! The restaurant Lol-Ha is right on the shore, or venture into town to Turtle Bay Bakery and Cafe. Further along, we also recommend getting a drink at La Buena Vida or snorkeling at the Yal Ku cenote. Akumal has a strong connection to art, so be sure to also explore shops where you can purchase handmade items from local artists. Ask us for more information if you're curious about exploring what's outside of the resort!

Cenote Tour

The region is known for its beautiful cenotes. We've done a two-cenote tour with Fernando Cat, who is a fantastic local guide. Photos and underwater GoPro footage were included. Our wedding photographer, Matt Adcock, is also available for local tours. Contact us for more information!

Chichen Itza Tour

If your stay is longer than a few days, we highly recommend going to see Chichen Itza. Please note this trip is over two hours one way and can be a 10+ hour day depending on which tour you take.

For all the days along the way
