The prologue

Emma was born in NJ, attended college in Atlanta, and graduate school for her Masters in Architecture from LSU. She moved to DC and then NY after graduating. She lived in Brooklyn for 3 years too many before meeting Milind. Milind was born in Jammu & Kashmir, India. He moved to New Delhi when he was 11 and to the states to attend graduate school for his Masters in Computer Science from Columbia. He likes cycling and swimming. Milind had lived in NY for 10 years too long before meeting Emma.

How we met

On a crisp winter evening, around three years ago in February, Milind (Mil) and Emma met each other after meeting online. They met up at Turnmill bar near Peoples Improv Theater, where Mil's improv group preformed. Mil had just had a practice, good for his dating skills, and met up with Emma. Turnmill bar with its rustic-chic interior, craft cocktails and draft brews added to the fun. They continued the date at Eataly across Madison Square Park for pizza and gelato. They dated, went to movies, for hikes, and played games at Dave & Busters. Emma & Mil, living in Brooklyn and Jersey City, overcame two rivers (East and Hudson river), an ocean (Atlantic) and other challenges (traffic in the Holland tunnel) to meet every week. They would meet up for dinners and drinks in the city using The Infatuation app (5 star reviews on the app store). They went on trips, in the Hudson Valley, Jersey Shore, to Seattle, and even Yellowstone National Park, Montana. They love going to art museums.

Love

Mil went to Emma’s family Thanksgiving. He also met a lot of Emma’s family at Max and Elizabeth’s wedding in Montana and everyone liked him and said he was nice. Emma’s Uncle, Fred, told Mil that Emma was glowing and to keep her glowing! Emma went to Mil’s improv shows and loved watching Mil in action being creative with his team. He has used his humor in other ways, especially on his favorite day of the year, April 1. He poured water in the cup where Emma kept her toothbrush, floss, and put it in the freezer. Emma felt shock and then humor when she later couldn’t remove her toothbrush from the bowl that was now filled with ice. Mil and Emma lived it up, pre-pandemic, and went to fancy Resturant’s during restaurant week. Emma met Mil's parents over coffee and spoke about their lives in India and Jersey City, yoga, and flowers. Emma loved spending time with Mil’s cousins, nephew, and niece when they came in town. When the pandemic hit they started living together and survived its scary beginning. Walks inside the apartment, date nights where Mil transformed the dining room into a unique restaurant each week with its own menu, and programming Amazon delivery’s system brought them closer. There were other nice parts of the pandemic, such as the fact that Mil’s family had many zoom birthday parties. Emma loved getting to know everyone better virtually and especially talking to Mil’s niece and nephew, Myra and Kiaan. During this time, Mil also learned to cook and Emma enjoyed eating his growing repertoire of India dishes, including butter chicken, roti, roti pizza, lentils, and Kheer (rice pudding).

The proposal

During the pandemic, they decided to get married! A ring was bought and brought on an airplane to a family vacation in Hood River, Oregon. Mil had discussed with Kathy, Emma’s mom, that he would propose on the first night they arrived over dessert. A delicious steak dinner, aperol spritzes, and pie were served. Mil surprised Emma by asking her to marry him and captured the whole thing on camera too! They celebrated that week with Emma’s family! We are so excited to get married and celebrate with you all, both in person and through the livestream!
