It sure is! Durango is at 6,512 feet above sea level! And Silverton is 9,305 feet above sea level!! What does that mean? You east and west coasters are going to get out of breath easily and get real drunk REAL fast. So go slow (on both accounts). Also, altitude sickness is a thing, so make sure you are very hydrated.
We highly suggest renting a car or carpooling. It will be much easier to get around that way and allow you to go on excursions in your free time. There are car rentals at the Durango Airport as well as other major airports you might fly into.
We're asking guests to dress "mountain dapper". And while this is still a wedding, and we DO like to get dressed up, avoid high heels ladies, as the ground is rocky. Also, bring layers. It will most likely be warm during the day, but we are at a high altitude and it is quite a bit cooler, especially as the sun goes down.
Obviously.
Downshift and don't ride your breaks! The road from Durango to Silverton is UP and DOWN a mountain- make sure to watch the curvy roads, but do pull off at the look-out spots because its STUNNING.
