Northern Virginia, specifically Loudon County, is home to one of the fastest-growing wine regions in the country. It features a similar climate to southern France, allowing many of the similar Old World grapes to thrive. We recommend checking out as many wineries as your schedule allows! Here are some of our favorites: - Stone Tower - Two Twisted Posts - The Winery at Bull Run - Quattro Goombas
Visit the nation's capital! Explore the monuments in their dazzling fall foliage. Visit the many free museums that DC has to offer (a couple of them require reservations beforehand, so make sure to check online!). The National Mall is accessible on the Silver/Orange/Blue Metro lines. Some of our favorite restaurants within walking distance of the Mall: anything owned by celebrity chef Jose Andres (Oyamel, Jaleo, Zatinya, China Chilcano); The Hamilton (great sushi happy hour every day!); Succotash. Many of the museums also have excellent food options in their cafeterias.
The nation's free zoo, featuring giant pandas! Right off the Woodley Park Metro stop. FYI: the zoo is very hilly, so bring your walking shoes!
One of our favorite areas in DC! A historic neighborhood with lots of shopping, sightseeing, people-watching, and excellent food. Walk along Waterfront Park up to Georgetown University. Georgetown is not accessible via Metro rail, but you can take a shuttle bus / Metro bus (or a 25-min walk) from Rosslyn Metro station. Some of our favorite Georgetown restaurants: Farmers, Fishers, Bakers; Philomena's; Susheria; and Apero.
Beautiful area to shop, walk around, and grab a bite to eat! Some of our favorite restaurants in Old Town: The Warehouse, Vola's, Blackwall Hitch, and Mia's (where we had our first date!). We also recommend checking out some guided tours around Old Town - you can find dozens of history-themed experiences. We did a ghost tour last fall, and it was excellent! https://usghostadventures.com/alexandria-ghost-tour/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwzMi_BhACEiwAX4YZUJLx0fbgTXvcFY8u5b1emg5QMhWrQsAIRxXGImN7dhq87gFaTyk0khoCjaEQAvD_BwE
Bigger than the DC Air and Space Museum, and still free (except for $15 parking fee). No prior reservation needed!
