How We Met

As told by Amy:

After I moved to NYC in 2016, my friend Damaris kept asking me to meet up to do fun stuff and, more often than not, mentioning that 'her friend Mike' would be there too. Every time she said it I internally thought, 'That's cool I guess, but I don't really care about your friend Mike...' And then I met her friend Mike. I'd skipped out on a Sunday Funday on Fire Island (at which *her friend Mike* had been in attendance, of course) so I suggested a make-up date. She agreed, and texted me the day of: 'I was thinking about making a reservation at La Dama, it's near where you work. Sound good?' At this point, I'd only been out to eat in my work neighborhood once and it was, in fact, to La Dama. So I said: 'Oh yeah, I actually know it. Sounds good!' The end of the day rolled around and as I was getting ready to leave the office I got a text from Damaris: 'Running a little late, mind holding down the res?' 'Not at all, brought my book. All good!' Then, as I stood up to leave: 'Okay cool, my friend Mike will be there too.' My social anxiety piqued, I considered bailing - but my new work friend gave me her number, told me to go and to text her if I needed a way out (thanks, Cristina!) So I went. And I met Damaris' friend Mike. And I most definitely did not need a way out. The rest, as they say, is history!

How We Met

As told by Mike:

I met Damaris in college and whenever she showed up to our rugby parties I knew it was going to be a good time. So when I moved to New York City and she said she had a girl for me to meet, I trusted her judgement completely and was excited. We set up a happy hour for the three of us and as expected, Damaris showed up incredibly late. Knowing Amy as I do now makes it even more amazing how easily we talked with each other that first day (I've seen the girl get flustered just running into her coworkers at an event...that she knew they were going to be at). There were no awkward silences, no forced laughs or uncomfortable moments. We just started to get to know each other. I promised her a date to a Yankee game that first day and after we went to one about a week later, I was hooked. All it took was for her to drop an obscure quote from The Office for me to know I’d found a keeper. I probably scared her a little by asking her to be my girlfriend after less than a month, but I just couldn’t wait. She was the one. She said yes! And now we get to live happily ever after (plus Nick and lots of dogs).

For all the days along the way
