How did we meet?

Home Sweet Hometown

Sumner and Mikayla are both proud Kasson-Mantorville High School alumni. Sumner was a weightlifting coach at the highschool weight room, located directly across the hallway from Mikayla’s locker. She caught Sumner’s eye immediately, and he knew he had to talk to her. After finding her on social media and messaging her for awhile and shooting his shot, she came around after a few months of stubbornness. They soon realized they had so much in common, and both wanted the same things in life. Over the years, they have grown together and become the best versions of themselves. They have been through some of the toughest of times together, and some of the best times together. The couple is so excited to continue to grow together and start their forever.

The Proposal

FINALLY - 12/18/21

As their 5th anniversary was quickly approaching, with no major plans, Mikayla was anticipating a quiet weekend together. Little did she know, Sumner had other plans. On Wednesday afternoon, Keagan (the best man) asked Mikayla if her and Sumner would join him and Kennady (bridesmaid) on Saturday evening (the anniversary) for a double date to the Rotary Lights in Lacrosse, WI. Although it seemed strange to go on a double date on a milestone anniversary, a fun weekend with friends sounded amazing! As Saturday arrived, and the double date ensued, the two couples walked through the rotary lights, stopping to take a few pictures along the way. At one spot, everyone decided they should get a group photo of the four of them. Keagan handed his camera off to a total stranger, quietly explaining “the plan” to this willing stranger and his family. After a couple photo attempts, the gentleman taking the photo stated he was having issues with the camera. Keagan walked out of frame, as well as Kennady, leaving just Sumner and Mikayla in the photo area. Mikayla turned to Sumner, wondering what possibly could be the issue dragging this FREEZING photo opt out. As she was looking his direction, he grabbed her arm and stated “I need to ask you a question..”. Sumner got down on one knee and asked if Mikayla would “be his best friend forever” and through the happy tears, she immediately said “YES!”. The couple spent the rest of rhe evening celebrating surrounded by some of their closest friends.
