Question

Before You Travel

Answer

LOCATE YOUR PASSPORT, and make a color copy of each of your passports and put the copies in your suitcase (separate from your passport). This way, if you lose your passport, you’ll have information on hand to show the consulate. Check with your mobile phone carrier for any plan limitations that may affect you during travel. You don’t want to come home to any unexpected charges. Make sure you’re aware of roaming rates, and consider using WhatsApp for texting or calling to avoid high international fees. Notify your credit/debit card company of your travel. This will help to ensure you’re able to use your card(s) for incidentals during your stay. Obtain cash for your trip. You’ll probably want to have some cash in hand in small denominations for gratuities and small purchases like souvenirs. This may help you to avoid ATM fees during travel. US Dollars are accepted – but you may exchange money at the airport currency exchange kiosks, or pre-order from your bank.

Question

Packing

Answer

Some Suggestions to Pack: Sunscreen, Bug Spray, Tums/Pepto, Ibuprofen, Phone Chargers, and Sunglasses! Hydration/Electrolyte packets are great! Take bug spray as evenings bring out little creatures that like to bite on the beach. Bring hydrocortisone cream in case they do get you! Ear plugs will help you as you become accustomed to a new sleep environment. If doing excursions, pack appropriately (water shoes, tennis shoes, etc) as some tours will not allow flip-flops. Some excursions require you to provide a valid driver’s license. You are allowed 1 laptop, iPad/computing device per person. Mexican customs officials are becoming increasingly strict on this and have been charging tax on folks who bring more than one of these items. No food and/or beverages will be permitted to be brought into the Resort.

Question

Tipping

Answer

Tipping is completely optional and not required at the resort, but it’s a kind way to show appreciation for good service. Being friendly and saying “thank you” is just as meaningful to the staff. Here’s a general tipping guide at all-inclusive resorts if you’re interested in doing so: Bag attendants & shuttle drivers: $3–5 per bag or $5 for multiple trips Concierge: $5–10 depending on services used Room service: $3–5 based on order complexity Tour guide: $20 per couple Tour bus driver: $5–10 per couple Housekeeping: $3–5 per day Personal Butler: $20–50 per day Mini-fridge restocking: $2–5 with a note for specific preferences Buffet meals: $1–5 per table Buffet chefs: $1 per station A la carte meals: $5–10 per couple Bartenders: $1–10 per group order (Tip consistently for better service).

Question

Arrivals

Answer

Early Arrival: For those arriving before check-in time, pack a change of clothes or your swimsuit in your carry-on. When you arrive on property, your room might not be ready for you, but they’ll hold on to your luggage while you enjoy the resort! Late Departure: For those departing after check-out time, you’ll still be required to check out of your room, but they’ll hold your luggage at the front desk until your departure time. You’ll still be able to enjoy the all of the resort amenities without a room.

Question

Timeshares

Answer

During your vacation, you may be prompted to call or visit a loyalty desk to discuss with staff how much you’re enjoying your stay and possibly book your next vacation. There are several things to understand: Some resorts are more aggressive than others when speaking to you about their timeshare opportunity. Even though you may be asked more than once this is a completely voluntary opportunity. If you don’t wish to consult with staff about a return visit, don’t hesitate to say no. Know that attending a timeshare presentation will subtract hours from your precious vacation time – the presentation is always longer than expected!

Question

Restaurants & Dress Codes

Answer

Dietary Restrictions: The resort is very good with accommodating restrictions or allergies just be sure to note it to the hostess and waiter.
