Mondovi is the town where the wedding is taking place - at the Barn at Mirror Lake. Mondovi has some great hiking trails including the Buffalo River State Trail and Mirror Lake Park - The same Mirror Lake where we're getting married!
Alma is located about 30 minutes away from Mondovi. It's an old historic town with lots of shops and restaurants. There is a great view from the bluffs after you go through town. As you head to the bluffs, there is a winery called Danzingers - it has fantastic sweet wines. They are some of Mikaela's favorites ever!
Nelson is located 33 minutes from Mondovi. It's picturesque with large bluffs that can be explored at Thrive! Park. It also boasts a fabulous lunch spot for sandwiches and homemade ice cream at the Nelson Cheese Factory. You can also check out their gift shop floor for meats, cheeses, and beer! Be sure to take a drive into the bluffs to visit The Stone Barn, a charming pizza place built into the base of a barn near the groom's parents' house.
Pepin is located 40 minutes from Mondovi and is on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi where it widens to form Lake Pepin. It's just south of equally cute towns Stockholm and Maiden Rock. There are all kinds of fun shops and restaurants in the downtown area. We highly recommend visiting the Harbor View Cafe and checking out the view of the lake - maybe even take a dip!
Stockholm is about 50 minutes from Mondovi and is a charming village along the Great River Road. It's full of adorable little artsy shops, including Mikaela's favorite little artist's shop called The Purple Turtle and boasts a fabulous pie shop that is Lincoln's favorite stop. Great for an afternoon getaway!
Maiden Rock is located along the Great River Road about 45 minutes from Mondovi. It's got a cidery a few miles into the bluffs called Maiden Rock Cidery - These are some of Mikaela's favorite local ciders. There is also a delightful little bakery called The Smiling Pelican Bake Shop which is known for its handmade treats, and some cute gift shops in town. Head down the highway a mile or two to see the famous sandstone outcropping that gives the town its unique name.
Located 40 minutes from Mondovi, Wabasha is located on the Minnesota side of Mississippi. If you're a bird lover, there is an eagle center located right off of the river. They rescue and rehabilitate bald and golden eagles, giving visitors the chance to get up close to the eagles and learn about their habitat and conservation. There's also a number of cute shops, coffee shops, and restaurants in town. We recommend a leisurely stroll down Wabasha's historic downtown and riverfront.
Kellog is located 50 minutes from Mondovi and is home of Lark Toys - the most magical place for kids. They have the greatest toy shop and have a magical carousel ride and is a must if you have young kids or are a kid at heart! Fun fact - Mikaela and Lincoln's favorite amusement park ride is the carousel!
Red wing is located an hour away from Mondovi on the Minnesota side of the Mississippi River. It's a cute town that was best known for Red Wing Pottery - today the pottery shop is gone, but you can still find those pottery treasures in the many antique shops in town. There are lots of sweet little shops in the downtown area to explore. One of our favorites is the Duluth Trading Company Outlet and the Uffda shop!
