We knew each other from high school and had a lot of mutual friends. But we didn't cross paths again until 2018 when we both went to a country dance hall and bar with our own friends. We ran into each other in the admission line and were inseparable ever since! We double-dated to a Missions baseball game a few weeks later with our future best man and maid of honor, Chris and Melanie. They picked us to be the best man and maid of honor in their wedding that same year, and it was perfect timing!
Our first official date was in downtown San Antonio at the Iron Cactus. We had a reservation for dinner, strolled around the Tower of Americas and River Walk areas, and even found some cash on the ground! We knew we were each other's lucky charms from that night on! And just to have a little fun and make the night last longer, Matt pretended to not remember which parking garage he parked us in, so we walked around for an extra 45 minutes trying to find our way home! On the drive home, Matt officially asked Mikaela to be his girlfriend. The charm of walking around lost downtown under the summer stars really set the night apart, whether that was part of the plan or not!
On our summer family vacation to Corpus Christi, TX, Matthew planned for both of our families to surprise Mikaela with a dinner on the beach. He walked her up to the tiki torch, candle lit scene expecting to simply take couples photos in front of the water, and next thing she knew he was down on one knee with a diamond ring in his hand! He professed his love and adoration with a simple question at the end. She said yes wholeheartedly, and they were able to celebrate with family on the beach for the rest of the night!
