On Saturday, October 31, 2015, my roommates and I hosted a Halloween Party from our 13th floor apartment in West Philadelphia. Dressed in a Cheshire Cat costume, I noticed a handsome blonde man in a black and white suit standing alone nursing a drink. This classy gentlemen was none other than Mickey Newman! Upon making his acquaintance, I learned he had recently moved in with my roommate's fiance who lived three floors down. We quickly realized not only that we found it very easy to talk to one another, but that we also had quite a lot in common. We were both graduates of Temple University, visited Rome, Italy at the same time, and shared a passion for art, travel and food (especially cheese)! After the party, as I was helping friends get rides home from the lobby, Mickey went out of his way to take the elevator down to find me so he could ask for my phone number. Though I told him he could message me on Facebook, he said he would really prefer my phone number, so I obliged. Ironically, he ended up contacting me on Facebook a few days later, but the confidence he showed in asking for my phone number in person made quite an impression on me as well as my friends! We met up for our first date a week later, which was visiting Philadelphia's Magic Gardens followed by dinner at a gourmet pizzeria/microbrewery. A few dates later, we became exclusive, and have happily been ever since! On October 31, 2019, four years to the night we met, I came home from work to find Mickey wearing that same black and white suit. He seemed giddy and asked me to put the Cheshire Cat costume on. Once I was properly attired, he utterly surprised me by getting down on one knee, presenting me with a ring, and asking for my hand in marriage! I was so shocked and excited! Of course I said yes! One never knows who you will meet or how you will meet them. Although I don't believe in love at first sight, I always knew there was something special about Mickey that first night we met!
