The Blanton is Austin's premier art museum. It's also where Mickey works! Swing by to check out some art and the new grounds they just unveiled this summer. If you happen to take a stroll down the capitol mall while you're there, you'll also see the Stephen F. Austin building, where Kyle works!
The Creek Show is a lighted art exhibit that takes place for one week every year along Waller Creek and in the Waterloo Greenway park, and this year it just so happens to be the week of our wedding! The art changes every year, so it's a great chance to see something unique and beautiful that you'll never get to see again.
On November 11th and 12th, the Texas Book Festival is taking place all around downtown Austin! If you're a literary nerd like us, check out their lineup. The events are free, and if we weren't going to be busy prepping for the wedding, there are a few we would certainly be going to!
In addition to the Umlauf, the Laguna Gloria is another excellent sculpture park in town that we love to visit! Bring some lunch and have a picnic.
Mozarts is perhaps the nicest coffee shop in town, and one of our favorite places for mini-dates. Have a coffee on the balcony and watch the turtles swimming around Lake Austin.
The Antique Mall is one of our favorite places to waste time. If you're a fan of antique stores and knick-knacks, they don't get better than this.
We love to take our kayak and stand-up paddleboard out on Lady Bird Lake when the weather is nice. There are plenty of great places to rent them if you want to get out on the water!
There are countless great places to eat in Austin, but this one is one of our favorites. It's only a five minute walk from our home, so naturally we eat there way too often!
You likely already know about Zilker Park, which is Austin's biggest and most popular park system – and just down the road from the Umlauf. But have you ever been to the Zilker Botanical Gardens? They're one of the first places we ever went on a proper "date," and they're lovely.
Go to Antonelli's, enjoy the endless free samples of their fancy cheeses, and then leave with more cheese than you were hoping to buy because they're simply too good. If they have them in stock, ask to try the Peach-Chipotle Chevre, the Junes Joy, the 10-year Cheddar, and any of those Gouda's with the salt crystals.
Kura is a hit with everybody we know – help yourself to a variety of sushi plates from the conveyor belt that runs by your table, and win prizes the more plates you eat. While you're there, check out the rest of the Crescent shopping center, which is full of excellent Asian stores and restaurants.
There are too many excellent breweries to recommend in Austin, so consider this one a placeholder – Lazarus, Oskar Blues, and Central Machine Works are some of our other favorites.
