Travel Note
Airbnb and Vrbo have become popular options for many traveling to Hawaii, especially those wanting to stay with larger groups or have a bit more space. While these may be a good option for you, there are a few things we would like you to keep in mind: -SHORT TERM RENTALS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN MOST PLACES ON THE ISLAND OUTSIDE OF WAIKIKI. They are only allowed in permitted zones. -We recommend using the link provided to ensure that you are staying at a legal rental. There have been cases in the past of people having their stays cancelled at the last minute, being given inaccurate rental location information, etc. -We highly suggest doing your research on any rental property through Airbnb or Vrbo before booking or exchanging funds.
Travel Note
The airport we will be flying into on Oahu is Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) There are many flights to Hawaii every day, so there will likely be many options. Josh and I opted to use Expedia to find a budget friendly option for a round trip flight, condo and rental car package.
Travel Note
While renting a car is not a must, you will be able to see a lot more of the island with a car. Getting around Honolulu/Waikiki without a car is easy (taxis, Ubers, the Outriggers trolley, etc.) but if you have hopes to visit the North Shore, many of the islands more popular beaches, or even just get lost and explore, I would consider a rental. You will also avoid some transportation fees to and from places like Pearl Harbor, Popular Luaus, and even the airport. Hotels and resorts do charge a daily parking fee but it can save you money if you plan on exploring, up to you!
Rental Car
Hui car rental company has many car rental stations around the island. Drivers can use their app to lock and unlock the vehicle allowing for safe, contact-less access and eliminating the need to wait around at a rental counter. Each reservation with Hui comes with a FREE guided audio tour with Shaka Guides! Don't forget to use WEDHAWAII21 for $10 off you rental!

We are opting to use Turo as we have in the past as well. Turo is a peer-to-peer car rental marketplace where you can rent directly from trusted local car owners in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and France. Turo does not own any vehicles — Turo hosts share their own personal cars and set their own prices, discounts, vehicle availability, and delivery options.
