Our Story

Michelle and Steve met in 2011 during their freshman year at Harvey Mudd College. They were introduced by a mutual friend and only exchanged a few pleasantries during their first interaction. Harvey Mudd is an incredibly small school; there are only about 800 students total with 200 in each class. On top of that, Michelle and Steve were both engineering majors and took many of the same classes. So you would think that these two love birds would have had many interactions throughout their undergraduate careers, but you would be wrong. Steve was primarily concerned with classes and managed to all but lock himself in his room for three years. During senior year, the two began to connect while sharing meals at the dining hall. Then they started spending time together while working on homework or projects. Eventually, love blossomed and the two began dating. Steve enjoyed Michelle’s company and sense of humor and Michelle enjoyed getting to know the enigmatic boy that no one seemed to know much about. During the Winter of 2015, Michelle and Steve found out that they were both accepted to graduate school at Stanford University. The couple moved a few hours North to the SF Bay Area where Michelle started a Masters in Bioengineering and Steve started a PhD in Electrical Engineering. They lived on opposite sides of campus for two years and spent every weekend together. Michelle graduated in 2017 and moved down to San Jose, but the weekend ritual continued. Over the years, Michelle and Steve supported each other during tough times and made lasting memories on exciting trips to places like Dubai, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Las Vegas, New York, and Lake Tahoe. The happy couple is now sharing their first apartment together in Sunnyvale, CA and they’re looking forward to the day they can buy a home of their own and start a family :-)

The Proposal

January 25th, 2020

To celebrate their 5 year anniversary, Steve organized a professional photoshoot at the Palace of Fine arts in San Francisco, one of Michelle’s favorite places in the Bay Area. His plan was to pop the question during the photoshoot in front of friends and family. Steve wanted it to be a surprise for Michelle. Knowing that she would quickly uncover his intentions if she were to learn that he organized the photoshoot, Steve devised a plan in coordination with Michelle’s sister Jenny and her boyfriend Anosh. Jenny told Michelle that Anosh’s friend is an aspiring photographer looking to build his portfolio and has offered to do a free photoshoot for a few couples. Blinded by her love of free things and great deals, she quickly agreed to participate. Little did she know that “Anosh’s friend” was actually a professional photographer that Steve hired :-) Steve’s sister Anna was also in town and happily agreed to participate in the photoshoot. On January 25th, 2020 the day after their 5 year anniversary, Michelle and Steve met up with Jenny, Anosh, and Anna for the photoshoot. Just as planned, Steve got down on one knee, recounted his love for Michelle, his desire to spend the rest of his life by her side, and asked her to be his wife. With tears of joy, she said yes! Sisters cried, friends cheered, and bystanders looked on with amusement.
