Flights from the west coast usually get in late at night so recommend spending the first night in a hotel around the Burlington area. There are lots to choose from. Can also look at flights into Boston (BOS - 3.5 hour drive), Manchester, NH (MHT - 2 hour drive) or even Montreal, Canada (YUL - 2 hour drive).
There are not a lot of hotels near this venue/area in general so rental homes are going to be the best option. They will fill up fast with it being peak foliage season.
Best places to look would be Plainfield and Montpelier. Don't recommend staying in the Barre as it is very hit or miss. DO NOT stay at following hotels: Economy Inn Montpelier, Hilltop Inn Berlin, Pierre Motel Barre, Quality Inn Barre
