Strings & Things is a small, all‑ages music festival held in Point Roberts, Washington, focused on string‑instrument‑driven music — think fiddles, banjos, guitars, mandolins, and more — across a variety of styles and energy levels. The vibe is relaxed, welcoming, and community‑oriented. Music starts a bit more laid‑back in the afternoon and builds into a higher‑energy, dance‑forward evening. It’s the kind of festival that appeals to a wide range of ages and musical tastes, which is exactly why we fell in love with it. You can learn more about the festival, lineup, and overall vibe here: https://www.stringsandthingsmusicfestival.com
Point Roberts is a small U.S. town in Washington State that sits at the very southern tip of the Canadian mainland, just south of Vancouver, BC. When the U.S. and Canada drew the border in the 1800s, they followed a straight line along the 49th parallel. A small piece of land south of that line — even though it’s physically attached to Canada — ended up being part of the United States. That’s Point Roberts. Because of this, you can only reach Point Roberts by land by driving through Canada. Otherwise, you have to arrive by private boat or small plane. It’s a unique little place — quiet, coastal, and beautiful — and the setting of the Strings & Things Music Festival! Most people reach Point Roberts by briefly traveling through Canada, but don’t worry — it’s much simpler than it sounds.
You have three main options: By car (most common): If coming from Washington, drive north into Canada. After a 30 minute drive in Canada, cross back into the U.S. at the Point Roberts border. This is a small, quiet border crossing and generally very quick to pass. By plane: Fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and drive south through Canada, or fly from Washington via San Juan Airlines on a small regional plane that lands directly in Point Roberts. By boat: Some guests may choose to arrive by private or charter boat from the Washington side. More travel details are available on the "Travel" section of this website.
Getting into Canada from mainland Washington can take some time. If you're considering TSA Pre or Global Entry, look into a Nexus pass instead which makes crossing much simpler and gives you TSA Pre and Global Entry. It's what Eric and Michelle both have. Go to: https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/nexus for more details. Crossing from Canada into Point Roberts is very simple and unless there's unusual traffic, it's like stopping on a toll road.
No, but documentation requirements depend on how you’re getting to Point Roberts. If you’re driving to Point Roberts: Because the only land route requires driving through Canada, you’ll need the same documentation you’d normally use to cross the U.S.–Canada border (typically a passport or enhanced DL). If you’re arriving to Point Roberts by private plane or boat directly from the U.S.: You do not go through Canada, so a passport is not required (though you should still bring a government‑issued ID, as you would for any domestic travel). If you’re unsure which option is best for you or have questions about documentation, please reach out — we’re happy to help you think it through.
Point Roberts is small, quiet, and very charming — but it’s important to know what to expect. There are only a handful of restaurants One main grocery store No traditional downtown or nightlife area Very scenic, coastal, and residential Because of this, most people plan to: Bring what they need with them Eat out primarily at the festival Treat the weekend as a relaxed, unplugged getaway We’ll share tips on where to eat, what to bring, and how to plan once we get closer — but the overall vibe is simple, low‑key, and intentionally small.

Yes! The more the merrier! This is a public, all‑ages event, so feel free to bring: Your kids Your parents Your best friends Your partner Or even someone you barely know but think would love the vibe If they’re into good music, being outdoors, and a joyful celebration, they’re welcome. This is very much a come‑one‑come‑all kind of day.
There are three tiers of tickets: General Admission: ~$50 - all you need to join us and have a great time VIP: ~$100 - access to a VIP tent with its own (i.e. shorter line) bar (we'll have our own tent, so the appeal is a kid-free tent and shorter bar line) Patron: ~$150 - VIP admission, plus access to a private musical event on Friday, July 10th (this is what we got!) Tickets available here: https://stringsandthingsmusicfestival.ticketspice.com/strings-things-2026
If you’re planning to stay and enjoy the festival, you’ll need to purchase a festival ticket. If you only want to attend the ceremony and not stay for the festival, that’s totally okay — just let us know in advance, and we’ll make arrangements so you can join us without needing a ticket.
Think outdoor music festival. We’ll be a little more dressed up for the ceremony, but guests should feel free to wear: Band tees, sundresses, jeans, rave wear (be as wild or low key as you want) Layers for the weather Comfortable shoes you can stand and dance in
The celebration is outdoors Bringing a camping chair is a great idea We’ll have designated areas within the festival for our wedding crew, with food, non-alcoholic drinks, shade, and games. Alcohol is regulated by local laws and the festival so we can only provide non-alcoholic drinks, but alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase in a designated 21+ area. We’re still planning out the full weekend, including possible pre‑ and post‑wedding events, and will share more details soon.
That is completely okay — truly. We invited you because you’re someone who has mattered to us and made a difference in our lives, and we wanted to include you in this moment. At the same time, we fully understand that: A music festival isn’t everyone’s vibe Travel, especially international, is a big ask Timing and life don’t always line up Please know we will not be offended if this isn’t the right fit or the right time for you. We love you either way!
We are booked in Point Roberts from Thursday, July 9th to Monday, July 13th.
