David and Michelle first met at Purdue. It would be logical to assume that they met in a chemical engineering class as that was both their majors, but no, it was biology. Both of them decided to sit next to a mutual friend. However, this friend (hint - you can look to the bridal party!) rarely ever came to class. So Michelle and David sat next to each other for a whole semester and the rest is history... ummm not exactly! Staying true to form, both were incredibly awkward and spoke only a few sentences to each other. They would never have guessed that weird beanie girl and playing-chess-on-his-phone boy would become husband and wife. It took another year, more classes, and help from other bridal party members before these two finally got together!
In college, Michelle and David hung out plenty of times as friends. Michelle would frequently use David's cable to watch the Chicago Blackhawks games (...how convenient!). It wasn't until spring break senior year that they finally agreed to go on an official date. It was a big deal... so they went to Red Lobster (sounded fancy to a college student!). Michelle never had crab legs before so David was trying to show off his skill. (FYI - Michelle was not impressed with the crab legs, but was impressed with David). Of course, the evening wouldn't have been complete without watching a Chicago Blackhawks game! This was just the first of many more dates that brought them closer together. And yes! They did finally make it off the couch and into an arena to watch the Blackhawks live!
4.5 years after that first date - after experiencing many highs and some lows together - living in different states, changing jobs, relocating, buying a house, and surviving work-from-home without annoying each other *too much* - David got down on one knee! COVID delayed his original plans, but he still made the occasion special. With bunches of flowers and pictures of the happy couple decorating the wall, David surprised Michelle one day after work at their house. With a look back at all their adventures so far, and a promise of more to come, Michelle said YES! (well, it was more of a vigorous nod with tears of joy and shock making her speechless, but same outcome!). We are beyond excited to start this new chapter in our lives and celebrate our marriage together with our friends and family!
