Nan had a profile on OK Cupid, an online dating app. She had basically given up on finding a suitable partner; if someone happened to like her profile, she would give them a look and respond only to those who seemed a likely fit -- those were few are far between. It irked her a bit when women set up a profile, but didn't include a picture of themselves. Michele was doing some soul-searching and decided to look at profiles from women all over the country. (She is certain that had she been looking for someone to date, she would not have included anyone who lived in Kansas City.) She saw Nan's picture, thought she was cute, liked the profile and thought nothing of it - except for trying to understand what it was that drew her in. Meanwhile, Nan sees that a woman in Minneapolis liked her. They were a 98% match on about 150 questions (A legit sample size, right?). This woman had a graduate degree, was politically liberal, and was a mom. But, her profile was scant - simply one word, the minimum to post a profile. "Kind," it said. And the picture? Tree roots and rocks. (See photo below.) Seriously? Nan was a bit peeved that this apparent good match didn't post a picture of her face. So she wrote a bit of a cheeky response to the “like.” Meanwhile Michele didn't realize that Nan would see the "like" and was a bit surprised to have a message in return. However, once she read it, her interest was piqued. She thought Nan was funny or at least clever. And so she replied. After a few weeks of daily emails, phone calls and video chats confirmed the mutual feelings that we two had found someone special and love might be in the future. It didn't take long to recognize that our suspicions were spot on. She was true blue through and through; and so was she. And love came easily, hung around, and made us into a family.
