It All Started in Central Park...

Our Story by Caroline, Mike, and ChatGPT

On October 4, 2023, Caroline was in Central Park, savoring an autumn day in her favorite place. A day later, Mike was in the exact same park, but their timelines ran frustratingly parallel, like two stubborn commuters refusing to make eye contact on the subway. It was as though the universe was saying, "Not yet," while tapping a watch. Just weeks later, however, their paths finally crossed—and let’s just say, the universe redeemed itself. Mike had just driven across the country from New Jersey to Texas, like some sort of modern pioneer. Except instead of searching for gold, he was searching for… who even knows at that point? Family. Hope. Decent barbecue. Definitely not love, which makes what happened next all the more absurd. Enter Hinge. Caroline was in Texas, getting on the dating apps with the enthusiasm of someone about to do laundry. Mike, on the other hand, approached the app with the gusto of a man who genuinely believed dating apps might work. Their first date was at Benito’s on Magnolia, where the queso flowed as freely as their conversation. By the end of the night, they had shut the place down. Mike discovered Caroline was effortlessly charming, and Caroline discovered that Mike’s love for SpongeBob SquarePants was deep and, frankly, a green flag. Mike started wondering if this could be love. Was she the person he’d been praying for all along? Or was it just the margaritas? (Spoiler: it wasn’t the margaritas.) They kept hanging out, and Caroline realized that Mike had a knack for making her laugh even when the conversation hit a lull. His secret weapon? Asking the most absurd questions, like, “Do you like meatloaf?” or “Do you have insurance?”—the kind of questions that make you rethink your entire life, or at least your dinner plans. The magic truly solidified when they watched the Rangers win the World Series together. As confetti rained down on the TV screen, it felt like a metaphor for their relationship: unexpected, exhilarating, and full of God’s perfect timing. Their shared faith began to knit their lives together in ways they hadn’t anticipated, revealing a divine thread that had been weaving through their stories all along.

Back to the Park

Months later, Mike and Caroline visited New Jersey to spend time with his family. One day, they decided to take a trip into New York City—this time, together. They wandered back to Central Park, retracing the steps they might have taken had fate introduced them just a little earlier. Walking hand in hand, they watched the ducks glide across the water, paused to admire the boats at the boathouse, and strolled around Bethesda Fountain, marveling at how the park seemed to be holding its breath just for them. As they meandered through the Mall, lined with towering trees, it became clear: this wasn’t just any park. This was where their story had quietly begun, even before they knew it.

The Proposal

Shortly after, the idea of forever wasn’t a question—it was a certainty. Caroline, always one to know what she wanted, had thoughtfully shared her Pinterest board of dream rings with Mike. Then she waited, confident the proposal would come in October. But as October loomed, Mike veered delightfully off-script. Caroline, suddenly less patient and more conspiratorial, found herself thinking, What if it doesn’t happen? She imagined scenarios ranging from lost rings to elaborate decoys, because, really, who doesn’t love a man capable of completely derailing their expectations? Little did she know, Mike had been planning since July. Under the guise of a family photoshoot on the TCU football field, Mike brought Caroline to the 20-yard line. Surrounded by her family, the spirit of Superfrog, and a whole lot of love, Mike got down on one knee and asked the question. Caroline screamed and then said, “Yes!” This year, they returned to Central Park, now engaged, and reflected on the Lord's timing of it all. It will always be their special place: where their story began and where it will continue for years to come.
