Just across the bridge from our hotel, you can access the Chicago Riverwalk. This also happens to be the start of Mike's running path and our proposal site! Take a stroll, grab a drink at one of the bars along the path, or sit and observe the sites of summer-time-chi.
During Sam's first visit to Chicago at the start of Mike's residency, Mike surprised Sam with a evening architecture tour, which ended with fireworks. We have been on at least three since and they do not get old. We learn something new about this city each time - and there is nothing like cruising down the Chicago River in the summertime!
If you happen to be in Chicago earlier in the week, check out the fireworks on Navy Pier Wednesday night at 9 PM. Offshore Bar has great outdoor space overlooking the lake and the city. You can also grab a ticket to ride on the Ferris wheel.
We love to take Divvy bikes to Buckingham Fountain, ride around the Grant Park, and up and down the paths along the lakefront.
While we were a "house divided" when the Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians in game 7 of the 2016 World Series, 8-7 due to a rain delay... Sam will still be a trooper and attend a Cubs game with Mike from time to time. Wrigleyville is a fun neighborhood to check out if you have the time.
Rooftop bar inside LondonHouse with amazing views of the river. Very popular spot when the weather is nice - reservations are recommended (for a small group you can sometimes get lucky walking in).
Where Mike asked Sam's dad for his blessing. Great option for sit-down dining with river views. For a more casual option, check out Pizzeria Portofino (one level below).
If you can find it! This speakeasy in the basement of Green Door Tavern. You can find unique entertainment and a daily rotating cocktail menu at this restored actual 1920s speakeasy. The Drifter has a capacity of 37 people, so it’d be best not to arrive with a large group. If there is a wait, we recommend grabbing a drink at Blum (young crowd), or you can enjoy the lively crowd at Green Door Tavern.
