Will I be Safe?

Answer

Colombia having it's history of violence and drug trafficking, can lead to to some real questions of safety as you come to visit. Completely understandable! Please know in the last decade, Medellin in specific, has done a lot of activist work to recreate a place where citizens feel heard and respected. From environmental work, to legal strides, the community of Medellin comes together to ensure a healthy living environment for themselves and its visitors. Its often said, Colombians are one of the most loving and generous people you'll meet in your lifetime. however, a few bad apples can ruin the bunch. I don't speak Spanish! What do I do?!

Answer

No Worries! You don't need to be an expert. Medellin is known to have tourists. However, here are some phrases to memorize to help you get by! There may not be someone who can speak English at all times. So getting familiar with the basics should really help! Hello, how are you? -- Hola, Como Estas? Good day! -- Buenas! (Very common) I'm fine, Thank you. -- Bien y tu? Can you help me? -- Me puedes ayudar? I need to get to ... how can I get there? -- Necesito ir a ... Como puedo llegar? (If riding a taxi) I need to go to ......--- Necesito ir a.... or I want to go to ....-- Quiero ir a... Thank you! -- Gracias! What is this? --- Que es esto? I have an allergy to...
