Travel Note
We ask that all guests traveling from the United States review the U.S. Embassy website in Guatemala for COVID updates and restrictions. The borders between Guatemala and the United States are OPEN for travelers. Current entry requirements (as of May 15, 2021) include proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival or a COVID-19 vaccine course completed at least two weeks before arrival or recovery from COVID-19 within three months of arrival. Mask requirements may be in effect depending on areas of travel as well as other local restrictions.
Flight
All international flights arrive in Guatemala City. Transportation from the airport to Antigua can easily be arranged by your hotel (which is our recommendation). If transportation is arranged ahead of time, your driver will pick you up once you leave customs in the airport. Antigua is about a 45 minute - 1 hour ride outside of Guatemala City.

Travel Note
Guatemala is generally a safe country to travel to and we encourage everyone to review any U.S. State Departments notices prior to traveling. Antigua is a very tourist friendly town, but normal travel precautions should be exercised. Please consider leaving fancy jewelry, electronics, and unnecessary items at home. Do not flash around large amounts of cash and use precaution if utilizing any local cabs or tuk-tuks.
Travel Note
Guatemala utilizes the Quetzal (pronouced kayt-zal) as its local currency. The exchange rate is typically around 1 US to 7.50 Quetzals. We recommend carrying around small amounts of quetzals for purposes of shopping at the markets, purchasing water bottles, snacks, etc. Currency can be purchased prior to travel or exchanged upon arrival in Guatemala. For the best exchange rates, we do NOT recommend exchanging money at the airport. Please speak with the front desk at your hotel who can recommend the best places to exchange money in town. Most restaurants and hotels will accept credit cards. Please be sure to check your credit cards foreign transaction fees and set any travel notifications prior to traveling.
Travel Note
Please be sure to use the necessary precautions with food/water in Guatemala. Drinking from the tap water is NOT RECOMMENDED and bottled water can be purchased all over town. It is also recommended to avoid eating from any street vendors (especially un-peeled fruits, vegetables, and meats). Also, use the appropriate caution with salads and ice in drinks (you can always ask whether pure water or "agua puro" is being used). We recommend traveling with Pepto Bismal (or anything similar) in the event you experience any stomach issues.
Travel Note
If you have any concerns on your health before traveling to Guatemala, we recommend visiting a travel doctor. Although no specific immunizations are required, it is always best to use the necessary precautions. Your travel doctor can provide you with the appropriate recommendations on any immunizations to consider prior to traveling. Due to its elevation and location, Antigua does not have large populations of mosquitos. Should you consider traveling to other parts of Guatemala, please consider bringing the necessary clothing and insect repellent.
