Although camping in a tent might be weird and cold in the fall, but hey you do you! Additionally there are several activities to do and local restaurants to eat at within the town. We know that it may seem a little weird but trust us when we say that the town of Crested Butte actually exists. Of course this does not feel that way after driving several mountain passes, a dirt road, and managing to miss all of the open range cattle. There are several ways to get to Crested Butte! Below are the mountain passes you can take to get there. Cottonwood Pass: Typically the quickest way to get there and it is fully paved all the way through. HOWEVER, THIS PASS CAN BE CLOSED DUE TO WINTER WEATHER OR INCLEMENT WEATHER. Monarch Pass This pass is typically the most well maintained but can add a little on to your drive time. This way we’ll take you through Salida, Co and Poncha Springs, CO. Either way which ever route you choose, as it is Colorado and the weather can change please use the link below for road conditions from CDOT. These are updated constantly and sometimes have webcams so you can decide which is a better way to get to Crested Butte.

As availability for hotels seem to be limited and more expensive in Crested Butte, Gunnison and Almont are better options. Gunnison is 30 minutes southwest of Crested Butte and Almont is around 20 minutes southwest of Crested Butte as well. Hotel and lodging is more available here since Gunnison is a college town and it is cheaper.
