Our Story

Michael and Kenzie met while working at Clearwater Historic Lodge in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, one mile from the Canadian border. Both Michael and Kenzie had worked at Clearwater in previous summers, but in different years. In 2020 when the world shut down but outdoor recreation was at its peak, Michael and Kenzie both found their way back to Clearwater. When your contact with other people is limited to the half dozen staff members you live with and no cell service, it's inevitable that lasting bonds form quickly, but Michael and Kenzie found something even more special. One of the first nights of the summer while playing board games with the other staff members, Kenzie asked whether anyone wanted a Tootsie Pop. No one took her up on it except Michael. After first bonding over their sweet tooth, the two soon started bonding over evening fishing trips, hikes, and long talks while out on the water. When summer came to an end, and Kenzie went back to Duluth, Michael started driving to Duluth or Kenzie started driving back up north every weekend. After several seasons of laughing and growing to know one another, they decided to move across the country together to Boise, ID (because why not?). Living in Boise for the last five years, their relationship has only grown stronger through all the ups and downs life has thrown their way. Michael and Kenzie feel so grateful to have found something so special and for everyone who has been by their sides through it all.
