Most people understand and speak English in Belgrade, but learning a few words and phrases will go a long way with the locals. Something to do on the flight over. :) Do not underestimate the magic of Google Translate, especially Google Lens with food menus and storefronts written in Cyrillic script. Da (да) = Yes Ne (не) = No Hvala (хвала) = Thank you Molim (молим) = Please Dobro jutro (Добро јутро) = Good morning Dobar dan (Добар дан) = Good day / Good afternoon Dobro veče (Добро вече) = Good evening Zdravo (Здраво) = Hello / Goodbye Ćao (Чао) = Hi / Bye (informal) Srećan dan! (Срећан дан!) = Have a nice day! Izvini (извини) = Excuse me / Pardon me Gde je VC? (Где је вц?) = Where is the restroom? Govorite li engleski? (Говорите ли енглески?) = Do you speak English? Ne razumem srpski. (Не разумем српски.) = I don't understand Serbian. Pivo (пиво) = Beer Vino (вино) = Wine Živeli! (живели!) = Cheers! Jebiga (Јебига) = F*ck it.
