Michael and I met at the end of his first deployment in Hawaii! I went there with my family to see my sister, Michelle. He worked on the same ship as Michelle and she introduced us when I went out with a group of her friends from the ship. We instantly clicked and began dating that January. He lived in San Diego and I lived in Houston so we had a long distance relationship for 10 months before I made the leap to move to San Diego.
In June Michael and I decided to do something fun for my birthday and drive up to Asheville, NC for the weekend. My parents ended up joining us for a day to go to the Biltmore Estate, and if you know me you know how I’ve always loved the Biltmore and wanted to get married there. After going on the tour of the house we wanted to go to the rose gardens to continue the tour. When we got there my mom suggested we take a photo around all the flowers. As I went to put my arm around Michael for the photo he leaned in and kissed my cheek. My initial reaction was, “what is he doing”? Then I looked again and saw him getting down on one knee. I couldn’t believe this was happening and said that over and over. He asked me to marry him and I said yes! We then went and toasted champagne at the winery 🥂 ! Now the Biltmore will always be part of our wedding story!
