The Farmers Market starts at 7 AM Saturday Morning and is a 30 minute walk from The Godfrey Hotel. Enjoy a few of the local vendors including Gayle's V's Best Ever Grilled Cheese, Mick Klug Farm (amazing flower honey to take home), or grab a breakfast sandwich from Dorothy's Bakery (Mike and Carrie are obsessed with their homemade English muffins!).
The First Lady Architecture River Cruise is a 90 minute boat ride through the Chicago River led by enthusiastic volunteers from the Chicago Architecture Center where you learn about the history and architecture of Chicago. Mike and Carrie have both done the tour many times, and each one is unique and enjoyable, rain or shine!
Chicago is such a bikable city -- it's Carrie and Mike's main form of transportation! The tours take you along the gorgeous Lakefront and through iconic neighborhoods like Streeterville, River North, Gold Coast, and our home in Old Town!
Mike and Carrie have toured Frank Lloyd Wright's Home and Studio in Oak Park, IL (near the Garfield Park Conservatory), as well as the Federick C. Robie House right in the heart of the University of Chicago's campus. If you are looking for unique architecture in Chicago, there are a multitude of options!
A micro-brewery close to where Mike and Carrie live, this place is the owner of the "Apex Predator" brew that is locally-famous in Chicago. Stop by and enjoy the back patio, overlooking the river. You can order food to this bar, a major plus! (If you do, Mike and Carrie recommend Pat's Pizza!)
Doma cafe is a low key no-frills, European-style brunch spot with a very cozy back room and patio. They have delicious breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and sweets.
Drive (or Uber) to the East side of Chicago and you'll hit Lake Michigan. To get the classic Chicago Experience quickly, take a walk through Millennium Park where you will see the Bean, Maggie Daly Park, the Art Institute and beautiful architecture overlooking the Lake.
If you've been to Chicago before and are looking for a new area to explore, Mike and Carrie love going to the quaint Lincoln Square area to explore the food and shops. We frequent the area after our competitive pickleball matches at Horner Park. It's easily accessible by the L brown line to the Western stop. Our favorite spots are The Book Cellar, Genevieve's Boutique, Neighborly, Geraldine's Cafe, and Willow Cafe & Bistro.
FREE zoo in the heart of Lincoln Park, Chicago -- no need to say more.
