Our wedding, rehearsal dinner, and boat party are meant for adults only and are not planned to accommodate young kids.
A lot of places are walkable! Our favorite thing about Marbella is walking along the ‘paseo maritimo’ aka the beach front promenade. You can also take an Uber or Taxi. There are a number of Taxi stands around Marbella that are very convenient. Uber is also available in Marbella. You will not need to rent a car to get around Marbella. If you want to drive yourself to visit neighboring towns, remember that a lot of cars in Europe are manual and you need to be sure to reserve an automatic transmission when renting a car.
You can request an Uber or take a Taxi. It is typically a 40-45 minute drive and costs $65-$75 from Malaga Airport. Malaga train station is a littler farther (45-50 minutes) and slightly more expensive.
There are lots of beautiful cities nearby to visit! Such as.... - In Southern Spain we recommend: Sevilla (one of our favorites!), Cordoba, Granada, Tarifa, Cadiz, Malaga, Mijas, & Ronda - In Northern/Central Spain we recommend: San Sebastian (where Michael proposed!), Logrono, Bilbao, Madrid - In Eastern Spain we recommend: Alicante, Valencia, Sitges, Barcelona, & Costa Brava - There is also Palma de Mallorca, a lovely island off the coast of Spain There are also many beautiful cities we haven't explored yet!
Make sure your passport does not expire within 6 months of your travel date (if so, your are NOT able to travel internationally)! It can take several months to renew your passport (unless you pay for expedited), so make sure you do this well in advance!!!
Typically the weather in mid-May is sunny with highs in the mid/upper 70s and lows around 60. The days are very warm in the sun, but the evenings get cool when the sun goes down. Luckily the sun doesn’t set until after 9pm! The days should be perfect for sunbathing at the beach, but the ocean will still be very cold. For evenings, you will likely want a light jacket for after the sun goes down.
Spain has a different plug than America so you will need an outlet converter. You need an outlet adapter Type C, like this one for charging your phone: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FJWLLDB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Note you will NOT be able to use an American hair dryer or straightener with this type of converter. You will need to buy a special voltage adapter, or purchase a hair straightener in Europe with the correct plug. Note almost all hotels and Airbnbs should come with a hairdryer.
You will need an international cellphone plan. Every provider is different, so check with your mobile carrier. Otherwise, your phone will work when connected to WiFi. For example, Verizon has an option to pay $10 per day for international data. Alternatively, you can purchase a pocket WiFi device (which is what we typically use). Text Michael or Carrie for more info.
Tipping is not expected in Spain and is optional. If service and food are amazing and you want to tip, we recommend 5-10% or rounding up a few euros.
Most likely no! Just like the US, basically all places will accept credit cards. Make sure your credit card has no foreign transaction fees. If you want to have some cash just in case, we recommend using a bank ATM to withdraw Euros, which will give you the best exchange rate. All ATMs will typically charge a service fee and your bank may charge an additional fee as well.
The ceremony and reception are both at Trocadero Petit Playa. There are multiple Trocadero locations so make sure you go to the right one!
The water is safe to drink, however it is recommended to get bottled water as the tap water is not as high quality as normal in the US.
