Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Michael Zinkowski and Asia Moore
If you choose to stay at Breitenbush or nearby in Detroit, we highly recommend exploring nature. Besides the hot springs and well-being programs (yoga, meditation, massage, etc.), explore and hike the nearby trails! Several trails at Breitenbush will take you through stands of giant trees, along and over the Breitenbush River, or up to cliff-side views. The Spotted Owl and Emerald Forest Trails are our favorites. If you choose to stay in Salem or Portland and travel to the ceremony, we've listed just a couple things below. Let us know for a more extensive and lovingly crafted list of fun stuff to do/see/eat/drink.
Detroit Lake

Detroit Lake

Detroit, OR

Detroit Lake, just 20 minutes south of Breitenbush, is also a beautiful sight to see. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flooded the old town of Detroit to make the reservoir for hydroelectric power, generated by the two damns just west on Highway 22 (back towards Salem). The uppermost dam is a lot of fun to check out, and depending on how low the water is, you should be able to walk around and explore the floodzone. On clear days, you can see the peak of Mt. Jefferson between the surrounding hills.

Spotted Owl Trailhead

Spotted Owl Trailhead

The Spotted Owl Trail is one of our favorites to hike at Breitenbush. If you follow it up, you can connect with the Cliff trail or even Devil's Ridge.

Silver Falls State Park

Silver Falls State Park

20024 Silver Falls Hwy SE, Sublimity, OR 97385
, (503) 873-8681

Just over an hour west of Breitenbush, Silver Falls is an amazing state park to explore all day.

Triangulation Peak and Boca Caves Trail

Triangulation Peak and Boca Caves Trail

Not an easy hike but a very rewarding one, with breathtaking views of Mt. Jefferson. The trailhead is about 50 minutes south of Breitenbush.

Enchanted Forest

Enchanted Forest

8462 Enchanted Way Southeast, Turner, OR 97392
, (503) 371-4242

For those who'd prefer to stay in Salem and travel to the ceremony, this is a fun and kinda creepy fairy tale themed amusement park that's been open in Turner, OR since 1971. A staple for kids who grew up in the Salem area (so Michael hears).

OMSI

OMSI

1945 Southeast Water Avenue, Portland, OR 97214
, (503) 797-4000

An amazing science museum in downtown Portland!

Poppa Al's Famous Hamburgers

Poppa Al's Famous Hamburgers

198 Northeast Santiam Boulevard, Mill City, OR 97360
, (503) 897-2223

Driving in to or out of Breitenbush you'll hit tiny Mill City. Do yourself a favor and get the banana milkshake and curly fries!!! Bonus challenge: send us a photo of your delighted faces.

For all the days along the way
