FAQs

The Wedding Website of Michael David Ward and Allison Elizabeth Riehl
Question

What is the Latin Rite Catholic Mass?

Answer

Our wedding will take place within a Catholic Mass in the Latin Rite, which is the traditional form of Catholic worship. This means the ceremony will include prayers, readings from Scripture, a short homily, and the celebration of the Eucharist. The majority of the mass will be spoken or sung in Latin, and there will be moments of quiet reverence. You don’t need to be Catholic—or familiar with the Mass—to feel comfortable. You’re welcome to participate in whatever way feels right to you. More than anything, we hope the ceremony feels peaceful, meaningful, and full of love as we celebrate this sacrament together.

Question

What do I wear?

Answer

In reverence to our Lord, we kindly ask guests to dress in modest formalwear. For women, this can include dresses or skirts with hemlines near the knee and covered shoulders (a wrap or shawl is suitable). Veiling is welcomed and appreciated. For men, suits or dress pants with a button-down shirt and tie are appropriate. Bright colors and florals are encouraged! Thank you for helping us maintain the reverent tone of the space while celebrating with us.

Question

I'm not Catholic, can I receive the Eucharist?

Answer

In short, no. During the ceremony, the priest will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion. Confirmed Catholics are welcome to come to the altar rail to receive the Eucharist on the tongue while kneeling. Communion will not be distributed in the hands. If you are unable to kneel or process to the altar, we will provide additional instructions. Attending the sacrament of reconciliation beforehand is highly encouraged in order to prevent a sacrilegious communion. If you are not Catholic, you may come up to the altar with your arms crossed over your chest to receive a blessing. We thank you in advance for displaying respect for our Lord.

Question

Can I bring a plus one?

Answer

Please check your invitation to see if a plus one is included. -Invitations addressed as “[Your Name] and Guest” mean you may bring a guest.- -Invitations addressed to “The [Blank] Family” mean all members of that household are invited—including children!- We hope you understand, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Question

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

Answer

Out of respect for the sacrament and mass, we kindly request that phones remain on silent and out of sight. There will be a photographer assigned with taking photos. These professional photos will be shared with guests as soon as possible. During the reception guests are more than welcome to take as many photos and videos as they wish! If you would like, download the PhotoCircle app to share any moments during the reception. A QR code will be available at the reception to connect to the PhotoCircle Album.

Question

How far is the reception from the church?

Answer

The History Center is a quick ten-minute drive from Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Question

What about parking?

Answer

Sacred Heart Catholic Church has plenty of parking for guests. The History Center also has a parking lot available, and we have permission to use any spots there after 5 PM. Please note that spaces at The History Center are limited. A map for alternative parking is linked on the Travel page. Street parking along Berry Street is free on Saturday. We encourage carpooling as able.

Question

Are the venues wheelchair accessible?

Answer

Yes! Sacred Heart Catholic Church has no stairs that inhibit wheelchair or mobile-impaired persons from entering. Although The History Center has stairs, there is a fully-functioning elevator that will take you directly upstairs into the reception area.
