Question

IS THERE A SHUTTLE TO AND FROM THE FAIRMONT ORCHID HOTEL TO THE CEREMONY?

Answer

We are arranging a shuttle. Details and times TBD, but please respond if you will take the shuttle when you RSVP.

Question

WHAT’S THE DRESS CODE?

Answer

Island Formal (breathable suits and cocktail attire, including summer suits or jackets and slacks, cocktail dresses, dressy jumpsuits, linens, sunglasses, hats and fascinators). It's an island, and rain or shine, the average temperature in September is a high of 86 F and a low of 74 F. The mornings tend to be sunny; the afternoons bring occasional showers. Kona and the resorts are on the dry side of the island with almost no rain. The wedding is on a hill above Kona at 1,500 ft elevation. The higher elevation increases the chance of afternoon clouds, breezes, or showers, but we do not expect the temperate to drop below 70 degrees. We will be wearing linen suits, for example.

Question

When should we arrive/depart?

Answer

Totally up to you. Given that Labor Day is the preceding Monday, some may choose to turn the wedding into a vacation. Others may fly in and out. We (Michael and Sam) are arriving Monday (9/2) and will honeymoon beginning on Sunday (9/8). We will stay at the Fairmont Orchid during our time on the island except for the night preceding and the night of the wedding. During our stay at the resort, we intend to relax on the beach and visit with friends and family (so feel free to come early and relax with us).

Question

Gifts?

Answer

We meant what we said in the Registry tab: your presence at our destination wedding is a sufficient gift and no additional gifts are expected. For those looking at the registry, please refrain from bringing large gifts to the island. We are embarking on our honeymoon directly from Hawaii and will not have the capability to bring our gifts back home. Our home address is 494 Avenida Primavera, Del Mar, CA 92014.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

We are asking for RSVPs by July 20, 2019. If possible, please respond earlier so we can better plan for hotel blocks, food, and group activities.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Yes. Staff at the Holualoa Inn will help direct parking at the venue.

Question

When should I book my hotel?

Answer

As soon as practicable. While you are free to book anywhere and anytime, if you would like to stay with us at the Fairmont Orchid at our preferred rate, we ask that you book your room early. We are blocking off rooms based on demand, so we might drop some of our block if vacancy rates are high as the summer approaches. Early booking will ensure you get our preferred rate. For more information, visit the travel tab.

Question

Are there any other events that I should know about around the wedding?

Answer

In addition to the ceremony/reception, all guests are invited to a welcome dinner on Friday, September 6. The dinner will be held at Daylight Mind Coffee Company, located at 75-5770 Ali'i Drive, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 beginning at 5:30 PM. We also hope to plan informal lunches/dinners/activities with anyone staying at the hotel during the week prior to the ceremony. We will update this page when we have more information.

Question

Should I go to Hilo?

Answer

Only if you like rain. It is the rainiest city in the US. Don't worry, it rarely rains on the Kona side of the island.
