Our story starts New Year’s 2016! Sacha was ringing in the New Years with friends enjoying a delicious dinner and wine at a restaurant in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of DC, called Ripple. Mike was celebrating with his brothers and close friends a few doors down at Cleveland Park Bar and Grill (Mike’s second favorite bar of all time). After midnight, Sacha’s group moved their party to CPB&G. Mike was sitting at the bar and offered a Sacha a shot and they ended up talking the rest of the night. The next morning, Mike surprised Sacha by calling her, ignoring the typical 3-day waiting period. They went on a few dates that first week, and the rest is history. Fun fact, Sacha is still entered as “New Years” in Mike’s phone.
Mike and Sacha had plans to go to a cabin in the Shenandoah Mountains with hot tubs, appropriately named Hot Tub Heaven. On Wednesday morning, Mike left their place at 5 a.m. Sacha just thought he couldn't sleep and was going to go work out. Instead of heading over to D.C., Mike headed to Front Royal area (an hour away!) to scope out possible proposal places. At first, he hiked 45 min to a small wedding venue with great views that they had come across one of our weekends there. He also went to the Fox Meadow winery near our cabin. It was still early morning, but the gates were open and he walked around to find the perfect place. After his reconnaissance, while having breakfast, he found out that wedding venue was booked. So he decided to reserve a pavilion in the middle of the vineyards. Fast forward to Saturday. Sacha did find it a bit curious that Mike knew so much of the area, thinking perhaps he did some extensive internet research beforehand. The morning started in the cabin, before heading to Fox Meadow Winery. They got a bottle of wine, and some wine and cheese and headed to the pavilion. Sacha was not the least bit clued into what was about to happen. After chatting and drinking, Mike suggested Sacha look out at the vineyards. Upon turning back around, Mike was on his knee with a ring. Sacha was shocked. Eventually, Sacha was able to get out a “yes” through the tears.
