Flight

Florence Amergio Vespucci Airport

Florence is about a 30 minute drive from the airport to the venue. We recommend booking a taxi from the airport to the venue or you may also drive directly to the location if you're already renting a car in Italy. You can rent a car in Florence and drive to the venue. We recommend using either Enterprise or Avis, both located in the Florence airport. All U.S. drivers will need to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) prior to renting a car in Italy. An IDP can be easily obtained through your local AAA branch for a flat $20 fee (https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html). People drive on the right side of the road in Italy, just like in the U.S. Most cars, however, are manual rather than automatic. If you do not know how to drive a manual stick shift, or don't feel confident enough driving one through the narrow and twisty Italian streets, you will need to rent an automatic. Rental car companies typically have fewer automatic options and they often come at a higher price point, so we recommend booking as soon as possible. Before you leave your rental car check-in counter, ensure you ask what type of fuel your rental vehicle requires. In Italy, gas stations usually have two types of fuel: unleaded petrol (called senza piombo or benzina verde - 'green gas') and diesel (called 'gasolio'). When you arrive at a gas station, you’ll also need to decide if you want to fill up your gas on your own (self-service) or if you’d like an attendant to fill up for you (serviced). Serviced refueling will cost you an average of €0.20 more per liter, and while it may not sound like a lot, that small amount adds up very quickly. You can also have a chauffeur pick you up and drive you. Please find some chauffeured car agencies below: https://airportstaxitransfers.com/transportation/transfers/Florence-Airport-Transfer

Pisa is about a 1 hour and 30 minute drive from the airport to the venue. Train

Pisa Central Train Station

If traveling from Pisa to Florence and wanting to take a route other than by car. The airport of Pisa and Pisa Centrale, the city main train station, are connected by the PisaMover, a high-speed shuttle service that runs every day from 6 a.m. to midnight, every 5/8 minutes. The average travel time between the airport and the station is about 5 minutes. Once in Pisa Centrale, just hop on a train to Florence: there is an average of one train every hour, with a travel time ranging from 50 minutes, for the fastest options, to 1 hour and 20 minutes. Tickets (also combined with the PisaMover fare) can be purchased online (Trenitalia) or at any train ticket office (there is one also inside the airport). Tickets for PisaMover can also be purchased from the automatic machines at the departure points. Once in Florence we would recommend either obtaining a taxi, setting up car service, or renting a car. You would then be 30 minutes from Villa La Palagina.
