Flight
Most flights into Oaxaca are through Volaris or Aeromexico. For our guests in Southern California, direct flights to Oaxaca (OAX) are available from Los Angeles (LAX) and Tijuana (TIJ). Flights from LAX are only available a few days per week, while flights from TIJ occur daily. If you are considering flying from TIJ, you can cross into the Tijuana airport from San Diego directly via the CBX Bridge. See https://www.crossborderxpress.com/en/ for more details. For our guests in Northern California, unfortunately there are no direct flights. However, there are a number of flights with one connection. Consider enjoying a day or two in Southern California or Mexico City.
Travel Note
The Oaxaca International Airport (OAX) is only 20-30 minutes away from the city center, where the wedding festivities will take place. After arriving at the airport, take a communal or private taxi to your hotel. The taxi stand is to the right of baggage claim before the exit to the parking lot. For departure, be sure to obtain a paper boarding pass at the check-in desk. You will need to have the boarding pass stamped by the immigration desk prior to going through security. We recommend you arrive at the airport 2 hours before departure.
Hotel
March is high-season in Oaxaca, therefore we recommend you book your accommodations ASAP. Given limited space, hotel blocks were only reserved for the wedding party and immediate family (those included will hear from us directly). There are plenty of near by hotels that fit all budgets. Below are some recommendations. Hotel Abu ($) Hotel Parador de Alcala ($) Hotel Casantica ($) Grana B&B ($$) City Centro by Marriott ($$) Hotel Vertiz ($$) Parador San Miguel ($$) Quinta Real ($$$) Otro Oaxaca ($$$)
Travel Note
Oaxaca is in the Central Standard Time Zone (GMT-6), which is 2 hours ahead of PST in March. Oaxaca in March is typically warm and dry... like Michael's humor. Day time temperatures range from 80-90F, while nights and early mornings are cooler, around 55-60F. Skies are mostly clear, with a low chance of rain. Oaxaca sits at an altitude of approximately 5,100 feet (1,550 meters) above sea level. While most visitors adjust comfortably, some may experience mild altitude effects. We recommend staying hydrated and taking it easy upon arrival to fully enjoy the celebration! We recommend having Mexican Pesos (MXN) on hand for tips and other occasions. USD is NOT accepted at most establishments, though most take credit cards. Using an official bank ATM often minimizes fees compared to currency exchanges. Currency values fluctuate, historically $1 USD has equalled roughly $20 MXN.
