Our Story

Connor & Mia met as many of our generation do - on a dating site. After a couple of weeks of casual chit chat & Connor trying to play it cool by taking way too long to respond, he finally gathered up the courage one afternoon to ask Mia on a date. For the first time in her life, Mia showed up to Rojo for their first date on time. She remembers seeing a tall, handsome, curly-haired man in a perfectly worn leather jacket striding towards the entrance of the restaurant & hoping it was Connor. Thankfully, it was. Connor remembers seeing a beautiful blonde woman with a big smile, ironically also wearing a leather jacket, & instantly getting butterflies in his stomach. As the night progressed & the margaritas stacked up, their natural chemistry flowed. They discussed their love for their families & their closeness to their grandparents (turns out that leather jacket Connor was donning belonged to his late grandfather Pete), their passion for sports, & their hopes for the future. By the end of the night, they were so enthralled in conversation that they had hardly touched their food. Nonetheless, due to Mia's coyness, Connor still wondered whether a second date was in the cards. Fortunately for him, Mia was smitten (although of course she wouldn’t admit that yet). It didn’t take long for Connor to realize he had found his wife. He even texted a few of his friends after their first date saying just that. Mia was someone who laughed at his jokes, who was genuine and sweet to everyone she encountered, & who made him a better person in every aspect of his life. Mia first realized she was in love with Connor shortly into dating when, after making Connor his first ever old fashioned, they sat down on her couch to watch Casablanca. They talked throughout the movie & she remembers an overwhelming sense of peace & happiness that came over her as she envisioned a life with Connor. Connor was intelligent, funny, affectionate, & never failed to show her just how much he loved her. Their first dance song is actually from the movie Casablanca for this very reason. After spending nearly every day together for a year & a half, Connor proposed to Mia exactly 18 months to the day from their first date. Connor led Mia to believe they were going to brunch with his family to celebrate her birthday and that he would be meeting her there with his brother Kyle, and his fiancé, Kelley. As Mia sat down at the restaurant with Connor's parents, awaiting the rest of the crew, she was handed an envelope by his mom. Mia, assuming it was a birthday card, was confused upon opening it to find a clue inside. She started getting the suspicion that perhaps there was more going on than just a birthday brunch that day. Katie and Rob confirmed her suspicions & sent her on a scavenger hunt to locate Connor. Mia roamed around North Loop collecting clues from some of their favorite places in the city. The final clue led her to the rooftop of Hewing Hotel, where Mia found a trail of rose petals leading her to the rooftop overlooking the city, which Connor had reserved just for them. With lots of tears in her eyes, she walked up to Connor as he got down on one knee. He was so excited to show her the ring & so sure of what her answer would be, that he started to put the ring on her finger, forgetting to ask the big question. Mia laughed & said “Wait, aren’t you going to ask me something?” to which Connor gladly obliged & said “Will you marry me?”. Mia excitedly said yes. They popped champagne and spent the rest of the day celebrating with their families. We cannot wait to get married & host the biggest celebration yet with all of our friends & family. See you all soon!
