Arriving by train there are plenty of taxis on the street right outside the station. (There are no Ubers in Inverness). It is a 20min ride to the Venue - Achnagairn Castle Estate. Check in is at 4pm. Reception is in the main Castle. If you know you are staying in one of the Manors ask the taxi to stay till you have checked in so you and your luggage can get dropped off at the right door. If you want to hang out in Inverness before going to the venue, the station has a left luggage area. It only takes cash but there is an ATM inside the station. Inverness has loads of pubs, coffee shops, restaurants etc. And if you are renting a kilt this would be a good time to pick it up and be shown how to wear it properly.
We recommend BEN WYVIS KILT HIRE in Inverness. Details in the Things to Do Tab. They take online orders and when you arrive to pick ups they will make sure everything fits properly and the you know how to dress yourself for the big day!
The walk from mini manors to castle about 5 minutes along a gravel path. If the weather is inclement (It is Scotland!) there are plenty of umbrellas and there is storage in the castle for jackets and changes of shoes
- Order everything at the bar and pay for each round when ordering - Card payments at bars, restaurants etc will be exact amount. Tipping should be done on cash. There is no option on the card reader. - Card readers will be done in your presence. You should never be out of sight of your card. For most places that means they bring the reader to you.
- Firstly, we drive on the left! This is not optional - Gas is called Petrol, it's sold by the liter, and its expensive - There is a Zero alcohol limit for driving, this includes the next morning if you have had a big night! - Driving takes far longer than GPS would suggest as roads are small with limited passing - There are several car rental companies in Inverness if you want to explore the highlands after the wedding. - Make sure your credit card covers primary collision insurance if you don't want to pay the rental insurance fees.
Most places have wifi, but when traveling in the North of Scotland cell service may be spotty Stay away from burgers if you are picky. They are thin and come one way only. Alcohol can be purchased in "off-license" stores, grocery stores, some gas stations and convenience stores. Even hard liquor. Haggis is tasty, you don't want to know what's in it - just try it! Chip shops deep fry everything, even pizza and Milkyways if you want.
