Lizard Head Wilderness

Lizard Head Wilderness

Telluride, CO 81435

We adore seeing Lizard Head Peak as we know the Cabin is only minutes away! We have hiked and skied this area every time we are in the area. Please feel free to ask us for any recommendations! The 41,496 acre Lizard Head Wilderness lies astride the San Juan Mountains, (10 miles southwest of Telluride and 40 miles northeast of Cortez) within Uncompahgre and San Juan National Forests. Wilson Peak (14,017'), Mt Wilson (14,246'), and El Diente (14,159') are located within the Wilderness. Lizard Head Wilderness is a land of ragged mountain splendor, with lovely cirque lakes, swift mountain streams that often plunge over dramatic waterfalls, and a spruce-fir forest opened by expanses of alpine vegetation.

Telluride

Telluride

Telluride, CO 81435

World class amenities in small town Colorado. Visit Telluride for the day and you'll be able to ride the Gondola from Mountain Village for free, peruse many fabulous shops, partake local eateries, drive/hike to Bridalvail Falls and visit Town Park.

Mesa Verde National Park

Mesa Verde National Park

Mesa Verde National Park, CO 81330

Defienelty worth a stop if you are driving/staying in Cortez or simply interested in cultural history. For over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on the mesas and in the cliffs of Mesa Verde. Today, the park protects the rich cultural heritage of 27 Pueblos and Tribes and offers visitors a spectacular window into the past. This World Heritage Site and International Dark Sky Park is home to over a thousand species, including several that live nowhere else on earth. Cliff Palace is the largest known cliff dwelling in North America. Built between 1190 and 1280 CE, Cliff Palace was once home to over 100 people. Today, it stands as a testament to the engineering and artistic achievements of the Ancestral Pueblo people.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

CO

Big enough to be overwhelming, still intimate enough to feel the pulse of time, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park exposes you to some of the steepest cliffs, oldest rock, and craggiest spires in North America. With two million years to work, the Gunnison River, along with the forces of weathering, has sculpted this vertical wilderness of rock, water, and sky.

Moab

Moab

Moab, UT 84532

Moab is our favorite stop on the way to the Cabin! There is so much to do in this area, we recommend Head Horse State Park, Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park.
