At this time, we have decided to cancel our wedding and opt for a private ceremony. Thank you all for being willing to come and support us as we celebrate becoming one.
Marleca: It was October 21st, 2017, and I was visiting Atlanta for Spelman's homecoming. Since I was based in PA, Kenya and I asked our Morehouse brother, Best, if we could stay at his place for the weekend. Upon arriving, Best said that his best friend would be attending the tailgate. Best also mentioned that his best friend was studying aviation and would be visiting from Michigan. I thought very little of it. That night, Kenya and I were walking around Morehouse's campus, and we stopped in front of Graves Hall to meet up with Best. And there Joshua was. We did not really need much of an introduction. It kind of felt like we were naturally drawn towards one another, and we ended up introducing ourselves. The rest of the night, we walked side by side sharing our testimonies, our experiences with campus ministry, talking about mega churches, and just sharing the faithfulness of the Lord in our lives. Meanwhile, Best actually forgot where he parked his car, so this gave us additional time to chat. After walking around for awhile, we realized that we should probably pause our conversation to help Best find his car. Lol. As we walked and talked, I vividly remember Joshua telling me to walk on the inside of the street as he walked on the outside. When we were approaching a group of guys on my side of the street, he would move me to the outside of the street. This happened more times than I could count that night lol. At this point, I was totally interested. Joshua was a complete gentleman and his love for the Lord was so evident. Oh, and I can’t forget... He was EASY on the eyes. Lol. However, I was not going to initiate further contact. That was never my thing. Thankfully, towards the end of the night, Joshua asked for my number, and I never had to wonder "what if...?" He said he wanted to send me a sermon that we had talked about earlier that night. After watching enough of the sermon to converse with him about it lol, I texted him! The rest was truly history.
Joshua: A couple months into "talking," Marleca mentioned this christian conference that we could attend together. Leading up to conference, the butterflies began to fly and the love bombs began to drop. Although we didn't fully say it to one another until the conference, you could tell that love was in the air. Around November-ish is when I told Marleca I was feeling her. It took some time for me to tell her because I spent a lot of time praying and asking my best friend about her. After I told her that I liked her, she told me that she liked me too. As we continued talking, I realized it was time for me to pop the question... "Will you be my gf?" Lol. The other big question was coming soon. Lol. Marleca told me that she wanted me to ask in person. So I thought to myself, perfect, I can do that. At this point, the christian conference was a few days out. I was home in Atlanta and Marleca was in Miami, so we both booked flights to Raleigh, NC for the conference. Since we were both arriving around the same time, I planned to meet her at her gate and ask her to be my gf lol. But her airline actually had a different terminal than mine, so that killed my entire plan. So we met up at the airport and took an Uber to the hotel to check-in. After realizing we were slightly early for conference registration, we decided to walk to Chick-fil-A. It was time to make this official. As we sat and ate our food, I looked her in the eyes and said, "Marleca, will you be my gf?" Lol. Her response was, "Wait... wait... Lol. You gonna do it in CFA?" She then said yes later on in the conversation and that's how we began dating.
Joshua: It was November 25, 2019, and we were approaching the two year mark. I knew it was time to take this BEAUTIFUL WOMAN off the market. A few months prior, I started my proposal planning process. Over the summer of 2019, Marleca was planning a girls trip with her friends. I wanted to keep it as lowkey as possible, so I used this time to ask her parents for her hand in marriage. Before the girls trip happened, I reached out to her best friend, Kenya, to ask Marleca how she felt about taking the next step in our relationship. Kenya told me that Marleca didn't have any concerns, so we could proceed. As November came around, I reached out to Marleca's mom to see what Marleca's thanksgiving plans were. She told me Marleca planned on visiting her family in Miami, so I thought this would be the perfect time. I reached out to some of our friends to help plan the surprise, and we did a surprise proposal at the beach on November 29, 2019 @ 2:37pm lol. Marleca: A few weeks before the proposal, Joshua told me that he would be spending a few days in Tifton, GA with his dad. Apparently, they were going "camping," and he wouldn't be able to talk. After making a little fuss lol, I said okay, I understood. I arrived in Miami, Florida for Thanksgiving break. At thanksgiving dinner, my cousin asked if I wanted to go to "brunch" the following day. I said yes. I got dressed for brunch, and my cousins picked me up. We headed to "GG's Waterfront," which was on Hollywood Beach. I was told that we were waiting for my other cousin to arrive, and in the meantime, we should walk on the beach. We began walking on the beach, and not even 5 minutes into walking, I looked to my right, and there this caramel man was-- along with my three college friends. After standing there in complete shock for a awhile and mentally putting together all the pieces, I was pulled into the sand drawn heart filled with rose petals. Joshua got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Clearly, I said YES!!
Marleca: Joshua and I don't come from the perfect family structure. We would love for you all to pray that God would write a new story for our marriage, and that our marriage would truly be a reflection of Christ's love for his church. Joshua: As some may know, being christian and trying to stay pure is hard, so we ask that you all pray for our purity as we get closer towards marriage. We ask that you pray for God's direction in our lives. Pray that we would be good stewards of one another in marriage and that God uses both of us for His kingdom.
